From the above, I know the first black to be officially a Special Agent was hired in the 1920s. After that came a long dry spell; this ended in the 1950s when Hoover hired a handful ... and assigned them to various tasks like chauffeur, or to infiltrate the civil rights movement.. When did they start getting recruited and deployed on roughly the same basis as white prospects?
