A British young man traveling to India in the Regency Era

This story is set in the Regency era as the subject says, and the young man in question (in his early or mid twenties) is the son of a recently late mill owner, so he has money, but he doesn't have a title. Would it be reasonable for this man to decide he wants to travel to India? Was it possible for someone to go there with the intention of visiting the place and not as a soldier or something like that? Was it possible for them to travel to many places there or would they be restricted to a certain area? How would that be seen by his peers? And what would he take with him, how many servants etc. And lastly, could he leave someone else, like a friend or employee, taking care of the mill while he's away?
