ANON POST: Medical response to sudden, unexplained unconsciousness?
Setting: alternate present day, major US city.
Situation: a volunteer participant in an EEG study being conducted in a hospital (a healthy male of about 30) suddenly falls unconscious and can't be awakened. As it happens, he won't ever be.
The cause of this is paranormal. However, I still need to depict the hospital staff's immediate reponse (this as not a setting where people believe in the supernatural). I'm terrible at medical-speak, so I'm hoping someone here can give me a hint as to the kinds of things doctors would be saying and doing immediately after this happens. What might be the first thing that happens? What methods might be used to restore a person to consciousness when there's no inication of the cause of unconciousness? What tests would be ordered to attempt to determine the cause of unconsciousness?
Lastly, I'd like to be able to say something about this person's brain waves (the paranomal event occured in mid-EEG) and possibly results of other brain imaging tests. I've not been able to find out what the brain waves of a person in a coma are like -- ideally, I'd like to suggest the sudden and complete absense of "higher" brain function.
