Super-Specific Stab Wounds

Dec 12, 2008 17:04

SETTING:
Location- Naval Station Great Lakes, North Chicago, Illinois, America
Time- Now/Current

Googled: A large variety of 'stab wounds' plus something about hospital stays and surgery times
Also: I asked over at Yahoo and AllExperts.com, but neither have been able to help.
The character in question gets stabbed with a serrated, four-inch steak knife in the abdomen, on the right side, level with the belly button and halfway between it and their side. The knife was removed from the body immediately after by the assailant. I'm assuming that it does do some damage, possibly piercing the colon or the appendix. The character does not die.

Now, the questions:
1) How long would they be in surgery?
2) How long after surgery would they be unconscious, or at least unable to have visitors?
3) How long would the character have to remain in the hospital after the surgery?
4) What kinds of medication would the character be on after surgery (pills, IV's, ect.)?
5) Would they have to eat certain kinds of food for awhile?

I hope you guys can help me out here. Heck, if you could even give me a website with this information, I'd gladly do the hunting around for myself.

Thanks in advance.
