Video only became widely available around... three years ago? And even so, the majority of people still don't have video-capable phones.

At that time I was shopping for my first phone and even cameras weren't available IIRC. Video appeared in the last three years or so.

I would say about three years ago is when they first started becoming available, but not widely so until the past year or so.

Camera phones I would say about 4 years ago if that might help. I've have a cell phone since about 1999 and didn't get a camera phone until the fourth one I got. (I get one every two years.)

In 2001, the most popular phone at my high school was a Nokia 5110. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_5110 This phone was really popular because they had so many faceplates and had snake. If you have any other questions, let me know and I'll try and answer them.

I got my first cell phone in January of 2000. I was just about to turn 19. I knew a few young adults with them before then but only 30+ year olds who had cell / car phones in the mid-nineties. During high school I had a pager. I lived in Dallas, TX.

But it wasn't until a few years later they added cameras and then video to cell phones.
