Civil War "Slang"

I have a quick question. I have searched around, but I'm really not sure what exactly to ask. That's why I'm here.

In Civil War era (around 1862), would someone still use the term "fiance"? And what would be used in term of "flirting"?

I apologize if this seems like an obvious question, I just haven't been able to find my answer anywhere!
