A Poem for Lughnasadh
- a gathering of friends -
I met the sun gods in the employment office.
Ra, and Apollo and Lugh.
They lost their jobs to
Monotheism and Atheism and Science.
Hard to believe in a god of the sun
when you also believe in hydrogen fusion.
I commiserated. The job market for poets
wasn’t bright either.
Still, experience counts for something.
even Death and Fortune have new jobs.
So we looked at the ink and coffee stained want ads.
Apollo
There’s always work in long-haul trucking,
especially if you can handle
hazardous goods.
Ra
God-kings are not in demand these days.
Still - foreman for a large building crew
experience with blueprints
knowledge of decorative architecture a plus.
Lugh
Celtic god of light and roads sounds so vague.
Management was the only solution.
Which leaves only me.
Anyone want to hire a poet?
