The time between the present and the inevitable is the worst...

So I haven't written in awhile. True to form things went from calm to crazy in 2.5 seconds.

Long story short I am freaking out everytime the phone rings. Why? Because my mom's best friend, a woman I have known for 20 years, probably will not survive the weekend.

I saw her last Monday...and she was doing great. Her numbers were up and a marrow donor was found. All that had to be done was some work on her teeth first (to prevent possible infection) and then the marrow surgery. There was hope last week.

Then on Tuesday, the very next day. she had a massive seizure which produced a heart attack and all forms of other hell. Had her husband not been next to her and keeping her airway open like the 911 operator told him, she'd never have had a chance. No answers for 72 hours. Even if she pulled through, no more chance of the life saving surgery. She is off life support now after those 72 hours showed abnormal brain acitivity....the only positive thing, if you can all it that, is the luekemia won't take her, and that is far more painful. At least now she is not in pain.

It all has gotten me thinking, what do you do without your mother? Your spouse? Your best friend?

Fortunetly this weekend was crazy busy so my mind was kept occupied. Patriots game on Friday, Cirque de Soile on Saturday and my uncle Johnny's 50th birthday party on Sunday.

As the party started calming down Sunday night I looked around my aunt and uncle's back yard. I looked at all the happy but tired faces illuminated by so many tiki torches. I listened to the celtic music streaming out of a boombox and wathed Johnny give Brennan his bottle. A nightly ritual between grandfather and grandson and took in the extreme calm on their faces. It was really beautiful.

Its funny sometimes, how such simple moments can turn into something so amazing depending on what's happening elsewhere. Close but worlds away.

So for now we wait for the phone to ring. Mom and I think she will wait until Monday night, she always liked to watch the Jerry Lewis telathon and hear him sing "You'll Never Walk Alone."

Fitting really.

Guess thats it for now, time to wait for my husband to come home and make some space for the new furniture coming in tomorrow.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
