Prompt: camping

"This is not my fault," Jonghyun muttered, crouching near the ground with a sheet of paper in his hands, frustration etched across his face.

Minho sighed and tilted his head back, staring up towards the cloudy sky. He breathed deeply and watched as the smoke curled and dissipated into the air before him. "Hyung, you had the map with you the whole time."

"See, that's where you're wrong." Jonghyun got up and stalked over to where the taller boy was sitting on a large root from the tree he was leaning against, his long legs sprawled lazily before him. Their packs were propped up by his side. "See this?" He thrust the paper in front of him, pointing at the mass of colour-coded lines running haphazardly all over the page. "You know what this looks like?"

Minho blinked silently at it.

"Yeah, that's what I thought." Jonghyun crumpled up the sheet in disgust and flung it over his shoulder. "Whoever let hyung draw the map clearly has a grudge against us. I bet it was Kibum." He glared down at Minho accusingly. "You used the last of his shampoo, didn't you?"

He stood up, picked up the map, sat back down, and carefully smoothed it out over his lap. "As much as this resembles the Seoul transit system," Minho began and ignored Jonghyun's snort of disdain, "this is our only way out of here." He began to study it intently.

Jonghyun watched him for five minutes before he threw his hands up and dropped down beside him. "You can't be serious."

"Does it look like I’m laughing?" Minho asked monotonously, refusing to take his eyes off the sheet before him.

Grumbling, he stretched his own legs in front of him, leaning down to touch his fingers to the top of his boots. Feeling the burn along the back of his legs, he straightened with a grunt and turned to his left. Minho sat unmoved, brows furrowed, mouth set into a tight line. After another moment of silence, he finally reached over and snatched the map from his bandmate's hands, shoving it into his pocket.

"Hey!"

"You know, we wouldn't be here if you two didn't get this crazy idea to go camping during the winter. I must've been drunk when I agreed to go," he said and pulled the beanie from his head, raking a hand through his hair in frustration.

"More like you find it morally reprehensible to say no to Jinki hyung." When Jonghyun opened his mouth to protest in outrage, Minho grinned. "That and we're the birthday boys. You had no choice anyway."

"Well, why did it have to happen the same day that only we had a schedule? And of course, once we got here, my cell phone had to go and fall in the snow - "

"But you slipped on the ice - "

" - and then," Jonghyun continued, flushing as he threw Minho a dirty look, "you finally decided to let me know that you left yours with manager hyung because a nuna celebrity that you refuse to name has been sending you porno - "

"They're suggestive photos, and it's not like I wanted them - "

" - yeah, like you're complaining." Minho's face grew pinched. "Look," Jonghyun continued hurriedly, "doesn't it seem like everything's just not working in our favour? Like, if any one of those events hadn't happened, we would've been happily getting frostbite with the rest of the members."

Minho eyed him strangely, wondering if the cold was getting to his head. "What are you trying to say, hyung?"

He dropped his hands in defeat and closed his eyes. They were doomed. "I'm saying that wishing all of that hadn't happened is as sensible as trying to find our way out of here with a map drawn by Lee Jinki."

Minho was silent for a few seconds, before he spoke up again. "Is it that bad? I mean, look." He gestured at the white landscape surrounding them and smiled.

Jonghyun raised an eyebrow. "Minho?"

"Hm?"

"I know you're really a thirteen year old girl, but this is not a winter wonderland."

Minho laughed. "They'll come searching for us once they realize we haven't showed up past the meeting time."

Jonghyun put the beanie back on and wrapped his arms around himself, pulling his knees to his chest. "Meanwhile, I'm going to freeze," he whined into his hands, flexing his fingers as he blew hot puffs of air over them.

"Well, a scarf wouldn't have been a bad idea..."

He twitched and didn't respond, pulling the beanie lower over his eyes instead. Minho watched him shiver for awhile longer before he sighed, exasperated, and stood. Jonghyun, sensing the movement, immediately looked up at him, eyes wide.

"Where are you going?" He asked in a highpitched voice, with an underlying panic that betrayed him despite the bravado he'd shown earlier.

Minho's eyes softened and he reached up to unwind his own scarf. "Move over."

Jonghyun's face grew increasingly confused as Minho stepped behind him and pushed him forward so that he could maneuvre into place. He tucked himself against Jonghyun's back, thighs hugging his hips, and proceeded to wrap the scarf around both of them, resting his forehead against the back of Jonghyun's head. They were both silent as he completed his task, although Jonghyun fidgeted uncertainly, as if he was unsure how to place his body within the confines of another. Letting his hands fall to his side after he was done, Minho yawned against knitted yarn.

The silence that followed emitted such an intense embarrassment that Minho chuckled, dipping his head to bury his face in his shoulder. "Want to know why I like camping in the winter?"

Jonghyun cleared his throat. "Sure?"

"It's a different kind of solitude." He stilled at that, finally, and Minho smiled. "I like it when all I can hear is the wind."

"Uh. Am I intruding then?"

"No." He let that be enough.

Jonghyun was slow to relax after that, but eventually he curled into Minho, his smaller frame fitting neatly into the space in his arms. Rescue was surely on the way - optimism was the ideal frame of mind, after all - and Jonghyun gleefully thought of the many ways he would make the other members pay for the sorry excuse for a map they'd been given and the wild goose chase they had sent them on.

For now, though, he focused his attention on making sure he could still move his limbs.

"Warm?"

He grabbed Minho's gloved hands and tucked them in his.

"Yeah," he breathed. They held on.

one-shot, shinee
