I would have to agree with much of what the "yes" position written by Keesing said but also have to take into account some of the objections of Trask when she writes for the "No" position though her tirades are irritationg. To some extent Keesing makes a good point that traditions are often seen and understood from an outside perspective when they are trying to be revived, and many of these outside sources will be the anthropologists that studied them before. But they also have oral tradition and other means to gain more of an inside look that would be very helpful and informative. But over all everyone's traditions are always changing, they are always in a state of flux. Since this is true we are always making up our traditions whether we by just a change in perspective or a change in actions.
