Are you looking at Flash files? Short answer: It's very hard! Especially with Flash. You can download players (at your own risk) that will convert Flash to avis but the quality usually suffers.

Another thing is to google the video you want as an avi. Again, it's at your own risk but since so many people DVR so a lot of stuff is torrented and already online in the format you'd like, just finding a trustworthy source is more of the issue.

I sent you good vid finding energy!

Yes I'm looking for flash files, but the sources should all be fine--they'll be news sites (CNN, BBC, ABC, FOX). The problem is that lots of those sites use programming or formatting tricks to make it difficult to get access to the videos for download; they're 'hidden' from programs like Download Helper and sites like KeepVid.

I just know that for every way one person finds to keep things from being downloaded, someone else will find a way to download them anyway! =)

I don't actually need for the files to be in avi format; flv is fine. My Professor just wants to keep a copy on disk to document any problematic language she finds, just in case the original source footage gets taken down and disappears from the web (which happens fairly rapidly on news sites as they rotate stories).

::basks in the good energy you sent::
