ah yes. the day of the ceremonial munching on the dead bird has ended. and leftovers, are a plenty~
wednesday i followed CBB to the middle of PA for a glorious night in the woods. we left my car, um. somewhere then headed to the starting point of his trek, some 79 miles (trail miles) away.
there was snow on the ground. :)
unfortunately, i was only joining for a whopping hour and a half hike in, and one night...but despite the long drive (and the fact that i got a SPEEDING TICKET ON THE WAY BACK!!!!!!!!), it was SO TOTALLY WORTH IT!
to wake up in the woods. just surrounded by...no one. nothing but the beauty of the earth.
the crisp air in the morning...listening to the sounds of the trees as they sway in the wind. seeing the trail and surrounding woods not only in the morning on my hike out, but during the night on our hike in.
its magical.
and it was the best way to start the thanksgiving holiday.
giving thanks, for the chance to experience something you love so much (nature) and knowing you are heading to see people that you love and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.
CBB and i headed in different directions that morning...and yes, i would have loved to continue on with him (if my mom works next t-day, im SOOOO camping the entire weekend. i would give up holy day for a tent in the woods. yes sir-ie!), but i had 180 miles back to the YO for the dead bird feast :)
(which sounds far, but try imagining 79 miles on foot by sunday for CBB. course, he can use monday as a buffer...)
anyhow.
yah...
so i got a ticket on the way home. one hundred and fifty seven dollars will be given to the clarion, PA courts. yeee haw.
i blame it, not on my tendancy to speed, but on CBBs SUV. it just WANTED to do 81.
you know?
but ironically, i wasnt pissed about it. i just took it. i cant fight it. i was SPEEDING. for no real purpose.
so, i will suck it up.
on to the YO!
ooooooooooooooo...dead bird was tasty! as usual, my mom cooked a fab feast! my sister had the gossip for entertainment, and my father kept asking the question of "where did i (me) come from?" (which was the usual response i got when anyone would ask of my adventures). my family is more of the "lets book the hotel and be waited on by the pool after going out on the boat chillin' in the sun" kinda folk. not that that is bad. its fun! i enjoy it.
but i enjoy the whole in the woods/on the river/on a slope/at the campground/playing in the mud/you name it, more. always have. (all hail CAMP FITCH!)
so, they often question the source of the sperm that led to my creation. (AKA: i am the mailman's kid)
(PS....a side note...as i am writing this, my HG ass is revving his harley. fucker)
so, yah, food coma.
my sister and i napped.
a lot.
thursday night, i sat in her living room, with my beloved sales ads surrounding me. a pen in hand. a xmas crack in the other. and texting backpack-phil about our starting point.
ooooo yah!
at 12:01, it had begun.
MY HOLY DAY!!!
oh! for the love of retail!
BPP (backpack phil...hey! now you have your own nic on my blog!, arent you stoked?) and i were chatting on the phone, simultaneously looking up reviews on cnet. we were both in the market for a digi cam. i have been torn between the canon sd750 (CBBs model) and the sd1000 (
lakeshels model).
while the sd750 has manual exposure control, the sd1000 has a viewfinder. something i cherish more.
and lo and behold, it was at circuit city for $149!
hot damn.
i get a text message from ben at 4am. "here i go!"...he is as bad as me.
but its not just about finding those great deals. its about watching others too.
hehehe... show me a tickle me elmo fight between white trash mommas any day! awwwww yah!
BPP met at my sisters at 430.
off to caribou for a fill up.
coffee in.
we head to best buy, which isnt open yet, but the line is amusing.
however, the people waiting in it were NOT amused by me snapping pics of them. (to be posted later, of course).
we decide to come back (i was determined to get the sansa clip!) and made our way to walmart/dicks/staples.
we stopped at giant eagle to get gift cards (double gas points!) but found out that there was a chance that they could take 24 hrs. to work. damn! why didnt i get them wednesday!? oh well, bought a couple for gifts, then wandered to walmart and dicks.
why? dunno. it was there.
staples still wasnt open after our wandering...so we headed back to best buy. i got my sansa (red, thank you very much!) and he purchased some items on his list.
lets see. we hit up circuit city next. and we BOTH walked outta there with a spiffy new canon sd1000, in addition to jump drives, sd cards and camera cases. hehe. oh! and a nintendo DS lite for his daughter. the girl model. it had a cute little doggie footprint on it :)
other stores we conquered: kohls, bath and body works, barnes and noble, toys are us, the mall.
after a xmas ale and some grub, we were beat!
time for a NAP!
and nap, i did.
only to wake up to more retail therapy with my sister (i HAD to get the fm tuner at staples. it was cheaper than the other stores! and fleece at old navy was calling my name.)
i still have radio shack and target to hit today. they have a two day sale with some killer deals for myself and gifts for others on my list.
not to mention, i need to drop the skis off at bavarian (thank you SBB, for the free tune cert you found at the keg party!!!) and run some errands overall today.
tonight, heading to the winking lizard with pam and pals for a 40th bday celebration. the spazmatics are playing (yay 80s!), so it should be fun.
tomorrow morning, brunch for sue's bday, and cool thing is we are eating at IHOP in steelyard. i have a couple of returns to make at best buy and old navy. lol! (hey, i found the same items cheaper elsewhere :P)
holy day weekend...so far, a wonderful time, and huge success!
minus the speeding ticket.
i mean, hell, that is 157 bucks that i COULD have spent on. um. something that was on sale for 4 hours yesterday, no???
:P
