His America

The boy’s home from school now
But instead of cartoons, it’s C-Span
The teacher gave him an assignment
A page-full of war reflections
The thoughts of aggression and trash
Fill his now impure mind of
The piece of clothe that holds
His fate as well as
The fate of millions of others
That will die behind
The words of a leader
Leading his path of revenge
The child sits in his room
Analyzing things he shouldn’t
The message of the ending
Comes to him with a subtle greeting
The pen in his hand
Meets his page when just then
The poem is born
But love is forgotten this time
The birth of a written hate and confusion
That was spawned from his America
The past twenty-four
Was the turning point for
The American boy that stopped
Believing what everyone else does
The supposed Patriotism
Of one country versus
The so-right beliefs of another
Clouding the original thoughts that
The peace once kept
In the days when
The money was spent on
kids rather than bombs
