Tradition. 2014 in Review

1. What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?
Ran a MARATHON! And changed jobs.

2. Did you keep your New Year’s Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I did not run an organized race every month (June through September and December eluded me). This year, I have a list of 10 things I want to achieve in 2015:
-Sign up for a 2016 marathon (with how much Rachel and I are missing the excitement of Dopey weekend, it will probably be that again...)
-Train (for real!) for a half and get that sub-2:30 PR
-Run at least 6 half marathons
-Get that gym membership and go at least once a week
-See Old Faithful erupt
-Cook dinner more often
-Learn to make homemade pasta
-Stop letting clothes pile up and put them away immediately!
-Finish at least 12 books
-Try a tri (I am the most nervous about this one, but would like to add a sprint triathlon to the list of things I've conquered)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My new boss

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My Uncle Cameron died in May, as did my friend and original box office mentor, Richard.

5. What places did you visit?
I made four separate trips to Disney (January for marathon weekend and the Dopey Challenge, April with Whitman's music trip as part of the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival, November to Disney World for the Wine & Dine half marathon and Food & Wine Festival, and November to Disneyland for the Inaugural Avengers Half Marathon). Andrew and I also took our first "couples" trip to Harrisonburg, PA where we did a little bit of hiking, went to an indoor water park, and had delicious college town burgers at Jack Brown's. In August, he had a work conference in Denver so I tagged along and did some hiking, exploring the city, and hanging out with Lotus.

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
Once again I had a really great year. Andrew and I moved in together, I started a new job that I like, I ran a marathon as part of the Dopey Challenge... life was great. More travel is already on the books - a Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park racecation in June, and I'm heading back to Edinburgh in August!

7. What dates from 2014 will remain etched in your memory, and why?
-January 12 was the culmination of Dopey and my first marathon finish.
-April 7 I started at The Clarice

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Dopey. Biggest achievement of the decade, perhaps? Can't wait to do it again. Oh! And I learned to crochet.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Losing momentum and not running for fun.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Aside from food poisoning right before Christmas, it was a good year!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Race entries :)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Rachel for pushing me, Andrew for encouraging me, Allie for cheering me, and Mom, for everything.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Society.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Race registrations & travel.

15. What did you get really excited about?
Travelling, Disney.

16. What song will always remind you of 2014?
Ke$sha "We're Goin' Down (Timber)"

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a. happier or sadder? happier.
b. thinner or fatter? about the same
c. richer or poorer? richer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Run. Train.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Nothing?

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Housesitting in Cabin John with Andrew. Quiet, uneventful. Didn't really feel like a holiday.

21. Did you fall in love in 2014?
Yes :)

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Downton Abbey was solid this season. Andrew and I started watching Gotham. True Blood came to an end (and wasn't incredibly disappointing - just a little bit). Game of Thrones continued to be awesome.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate at this time last year?
I still don't hate people.

24. What was the best book you read?
I read a lot more this year than I did last year. I enjoyed Outlander, and loved reminiscing about Potter fandom with Harry, A History.

25. What music did you get excited about?
Enter the Haggis Jubilee Riots

26. What did you want and get?
More race medals. A beautiful Kate Spade bag from Andrew. Vacation time.

27. What did you want and not get?
A half marathon PR.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
I only saw two movies in theatres, so Into the Woods takes the cake here.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I didn't have a party or big social gathering this year. For my birthday, Andrew and I had a yummy dinner at Rosa Mexicana, then wandered around the monuments downtown.

30. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
Bigger celebrations. I was bummed out about not properly celebrating my birthday or Christmas.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?
Business casual. And workout gear.

32. What kept you sane?
My friends. Alastor. Andrew. Running.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
JLaw is still awesome. Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep kicked some serious ass in Into the Woods.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
#blacklivesmatter

35. Whom did you miss?
My old coworkers.

36. Who was the best new person you met?
My new coworkers!

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.
Live in the now.
