Terry is very earnest. Which is why he fails at Batman so hard most of the time... he's a sucky liar, and he hates hiding things from people he trusts. And I hate to say that he trusts too easily, but he does. And his behavior with Sophie isn't the same treatment he gives most people... he's not casually touchy, so he really hasn't hugged anybody. Or had much other contact, for that matter. He only told two people about the fact he missed his birthday (one was Tim, and the other was Kairi but she specifically asked when it was so his admission wasn't quite voluntary). He's never asked anybody else out, or flirted so persistently, bad as his skills are. And he's been here four months. o_O It sorta threw me for a loop to realize that there's more going on in his head than I knew. I didn't think he was this deep, so I sat down to analyze the why.

When it comes to girls, Terry seems to like complicated. His canon girlfriend... is incredibly difficult to deal with. They're broken up more than they're together, and Terry dates random other people during the series. So he's not particularly devoted... maybe because she dumps him or is pissed off at him every few episodes. And the girl he fell for hardest was Melanie...... who was a series not-villain that didn't know he was Batman, but had a thing for Terry, which... doesn't happen. Everybody's enamored with Batman. It knocks Terry sort of sideways when someone likes him, just for being himself. And in that way, Sophie's. Yeah. She wouldn't give a fuck about his sekrit identity, he doesn't think. And he sort of likes the chase, of someone he has to work for. It makes him feel more honest, makes him think it's an actual relationship and not just a 'hey you're hot' sort of fling, like he sees a lot in school.

The reasons for his initial persual weren't as complicated... very nice, pretty girl. Who thought that she wasn't ____. And Terry thought that was ridiculous. Like I've said a million times, he's totally clueless about magic, and souls, and religion. But he thinks that to not be worth things because you don't have something so intangible just... seems really stupid and frustrating and not fair. And if there's anything he can do to help with that, he wants to. Maybe someday, he'll actually understand it. Until then, he'll just dork at her and hope it's productive, somehow.
