Let it be known that I got just as worried as anyone at word that Disney has bought Marvel, and what that's going to mean for our favourite superheroes and whatnot.
Seriously. My first thoughts ran much along the line of Mercedes' (who I hope will forgive me for quoting her here):
Marvel is about violence and women in very skimpy clothes and who's screwing around with who while the world is ending. There are homicidal maniacs playing the role of antihero! And Disney......Disney doesn't really do that.
During my random journal bouncing via my flist, I came across a comment made by one
timjr as quoted by someone on
distractedone 's journal:
"Before we get too worried about what it'll mean creatively for Marvel, I'd like to point out the creative independence that Pixar enjoys, as well as the fact that Disney owns Miramax. A movie company that brought you (or helped) the following films: Reservoir Dogs, Trainspotting, Dogma, Kill Bill, Kinky Boots, Clerks 2, and No Country for Old Men."
This makes me feel a lot better, and I hope this is encouraging for my fellow True Believers. I'm sure we're all going to be watching very carefully anyhow; it's in our nature as geeks and fans. Hopefully it will be with just a touch less trepidation.
