Busy days we have spent with our crayons and pencils.

I'm lucky enough to have tomorrow off as well as today.

There's lesson planning to be done, yes. I've got to ensure that I've figured out some things, and finish up planning a couple units. I should probably track down and print off a couple recipes for my Foods class too. Can't hurt to have a small collection, right?

Still, I really ought to have ( Read more... )

Cessily shouldn't have done it.
She did anyway.
Seeing as she didn't go to Bayville High, and was ahead in her self-paced studies, the Professor was fine with her taking some time off. It t wasn't like a bus ticket was particularly expensive either (okay, so it was kind of on the steep side, but Xavier's granted each student a small stipend to take care of their personal lives -- clothes, the occasional outing, whatever they might need -- and Cessily figured that her plan counted as 'personal', so she shelled out the money), so it hadn't seemed like a big deal.
So she took the bus from New York to Oregon. A long trip, yes, but there was no way she could fly out, not with airport metal detectors.
Ubiquitous hoodie in place and backpack slung over her shoulder, she stepped off the bus in Portland and walked the twenty blocks to where she'd used to live.
Cessily knew her parents wouldn't be home. It was the middle of the day, after all, and they'd be away at work.
Walking up the driveway towards the house was painful. Careful not to attract attention from the neighbors (a tall, lanky girl in a dark hoodie sneaking up to a house wouldn't go over well), she approached the window that looked in to the living room. Scanning the room, she noted that it had hardly changed. The same.
She'd remembered a photograph hanging there. It had been of her, back on her tenth birthday. She'd been laughing, and her mother had always said that it was the most adorable she'd ever seen Cessily.
That was before she catalyzed though, and before her mother and father had changed their minds about her.
The photograph was gone now, the only evidence it'd ever been there a slight discolouration on the wall in the shape of a frame.
It shouldn't have been a surprise. It still hurt.
The shadow of her face was reflected in the window. A flash of her eyes, a few stray strands of red hair. She bit her lip, looked at the empty rectangle at the wall, and the focus of her eyes shifted to her reflection.
Her fists balled.
Turning around, she started walking back to the bus station at as quick a pace as she could.
If she was lucky, there would be a bus back to New York within the hour.

Poor girl. All I really know about Cess comes from an online RPG four-plus years ago, but I always wanted to slap her parents.

I really only have a Wikipedia/Google knowledge of her character. moonys_autumn got me to drop Mercury into the Evoverse through a headcanon meme, and hasn't let me stop writing her since. :)

Oh, hell yeah though. Her parents are assholes any way you slice it.
