Captain Tricia Harper couldn't help but grit her teeth whenever she noticed the red rubber band on Britten's wrist. It didn't happen often, really -- he wore long-sleeved shirts almost exclusively when he was at work -- but when he shifted his arm a certain way, his sleeve rode up and revealed it, if only in partial flashes. It wasn't the rubber band itself that set her on edge though. It was everything that band represented. She knew the purpose it served for Michael, of course. It was one of the fringe benefits (as she thought of them in her more bitter moments) of her role in the whole affair. The degree to which she was complicit might have been arguable, but she was part of it and the rubber band reminded her of that as much as it reminded Michael of where he was. She was fairly certain it was guilt that ate at her. It was too late for that though. What was done was done, and she was one of a very small cabal of individuals who knew the truth. That band was a mark of every lie Michael was being told and all that was being kept from him. All that she was helping to keep from him. What choice did she have though? She was in far too deep. Even if she had wanted to -- which she really didn't -- there was no way he could be told. It would destroy everything. So she played her role, just as was expected of her. She was his captain. He was a detective under her command. She also watched that stupid rubber band and continued to keep the secrets she'd been charged with as best she could.

Ooooh! You took this and did something I didn't even expect. Love it, as always. I'm starting to love this character. I can tell she wants desperately to keep Michael alive and actually cares about him, whether or not she denies it to herself.

Argh! I'm just waiting for them to show us more of what she actually knows and what honestly happened! I'll take even the barest of hints, y'know?
