I stand on painted tape. It tells me where I'm going.

Been thinking lately about my bucket list lately. Or at least, what I think qualifies as a bucket list.

Don't ask me why; it's honestly hard to say. I've just been thinking is all. Outside of getting a job as a teacher, there's stuff I really, really want to accomplish.

  • Visit France again. Perhaps do something of a European tour and hit up a few other countries while I'm at it, but frankly? France is priority.
  • Go to San Diego Comic Con at least once.
  • Visit New Orleans. It's one thing to read about and research it, to look at pictures, to 'know' the city from a distance. It's another entirely to actually be there.
  • Become fluent in French and maybe even American Sign Language. They're both beautiful languages, and could be damn useful. I spoke with a professor at a local university yesterday -- not the one I went to for my undergrad, if it makes any difference -- and we had a short conversation in French so he could tell me what level I'd be at.  I'm so rusty with my tenses, it's not even funny. I'm still excited thought. I'm cutting it close for registration for the January semester, but I just might get in to the class I should be in. It's currently full, but as the professor at the folks at Student Services said, that's been known to change. Cross your fingers for me.
  • Write an original novel. It doesn't matter if it's a JuNoWriMo/NaNoWriMo/WhateverWriMo, or if I do it at my own pace outside of a Novel Writing Month schedule, or if it even gets sent off to a literary agent once it's done. I just want to know that I've done it.
  • Learn to play the guitar -- or rather, keep learning until I'm halfway decent at it. One song does not a repertoire make, and chromatic scales (however limber they leave your fingers) aren't especially pleasant for others to listen to regardless of how soothing it is for me.
  • Read, at minimum, 50 books a year. I select this number based on the fact that I'm likely going back to school, and bearing in mind that I may get a teaching job in the relatively near future, and as such won't be able to do much more than 50 simply because of time constraints. I'm currently at 99 books read in 2010, which is pretty awesome.
  • Get the tattoo I've been planning. This one is actually closer than any of the others, honestly. I've been saving, I know where I'm getting it done, and all that's left is to save a little more, get a consultation, then get the actual work done.
  • Learn to cook the traditional Ukrainian Christmas Eve dinner we always have in my family. This is a surprisingly complex process comprised of preparing twelve separate dishes that involves an entire day's work. A little longer, even, if you make the crepes for the nalesniki ahead of time. The whole thing has been passed down for as far back as I can trace on that side of the family. It's my turn to pick it up.

It feels good to write this all down. The trick is now going about achieving these goals.
Well, that, and puttering away at my fic docket. But that's a whole other entry.  Or rather, series of entries, once I've finished all the pieces I have on the go. Le sigh.

Aaaaaand I'm gonna go get ready for work now. Feeling a little off today, which is going to be a blast. Lozenges, some advil, and we'll see what else I can scrounge up to get me through the day. Here's hoping I make it through in one piece, yeah?

she cooks too?, reading, writing, break it down now, she's on a mission now, fandom is fun, geekiness ahoy, school, work, list-y goodness, percy is broken, shut up music is my boyfriend, i r ed-yu-ma-cated
