I am a bad, bad James Bond fan. I may have grown up with Pierce Brosnan's Bond, and fallen in love with Daniel Craig's take on him (though 'Quantum of Solace' is still...euh. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it based on what I've heard, and my desire to NOT have Craig!Bond ruined for me). I have not, however, seen any of the other Bonds except in clips and in passing.
The house I am looking after is fully stocked with DVDs, and I have full permission to raid the hell out of them while I'm here. The entire James Bond collection is here, and I figured what the hell. Why not. So every night before I go to bed, I've watched a Bond movie. I started with Brosnan's flicks, because those are the ones I'm familiar with (and I hate/love you "Goldeneye" for you and your stupid sexy Sean Bean 006, and the naughty implications you make about his and 007's relationship).
Then I went back to the beginning. I watched 'Dr. No' last night, and HOLY SHIT I realized that I:
a) I need more young Sean Connery in my life.
b) Connery!Bond kicks severe ass. No gadgets, just charm , quick thinking, and DAMN STRAIGHT he can kick your ass without a second thought. It's so very basic; no special effects, no super-special over the top action sequences for the sake of action sequences. Just the writing, Connery's swagger, and the character's license to kill.
Now let me be clear. I love Craig!Bond dearly -- at least 'Casino Royale' Bond, and I think he may always be my favourite Bond of all -- but 'Casino Royale' was obviously trying to get back to the roots set down back even in the first film of the franchise. Having seen where it came from, I can appreciate the reboot that much more. I can't believe it's taken me this long to actually watch the older stuff, and I'm so excited to watch more. Why the hell it's taken me this long to get around to it, I have no idea.
Next stop, 'From Russia With Love'. I'm in fangirl heaven right now.
But hey, Bourne? Honey? Darling? Don't worry bb. You haven't been replaced, Jason. You know you'll always be my number one. Promise.
...and now I really, desperately want to see crossovers featuring Craig!Bond and movieverse!Bourne. How frigging awesome would that be? Really frigging awesome. Fic, art, anything, dear god. If anyone has seen something (MERCEDES, AMBER, I'M LOOKING AT YOU TWO SPECIFICALLY), please for the love of you hold dear, share, and I will love you even more than I already do. Which is a lot. And I am NOT already writing a crossover in my head involving the two kicking the ever-living shit out of one another. Nope. Not at all. NO, DAMMIT, DON'T EVEN PRESUME TO ASSUME SUCH THINGS, GUYS.
