To everything, turn, turn, turn, there is a season. Turn, turn, turn.

It's been a while since I last housesat, and I finally have the freedom to sing as loud as I want inside the house without anyone giving me hell for it. It's pretty sweet -- even the cats I'm looking after don't mind as I belt out a little bit of everything. They have also accepted me as "SHE WHO GIVES THE FOOD AND CLEANS UP THE LITTERBOX" quite quickly, which is good. One even decided last night that I made a most excellent perch, and sat on my chest, purring as I read "Outlander". The owner of the house had it sitting around, and so I figured why not give it a shot while I'm here. For the curious, I'm three chapters in and not especially impressed. If someone qualifies a phrase with "you know" one more time, I will do something dastardly.

Of course, since I'm alone, and have in less than twenty-four hours of being so have taken to conversing with the cats, bad ideas are beginning to form.

A long time ago, I wrote an X-Men Evolution ficlet called "Dalit". It sparked some conversation about the  idea of reincarnation, the Book of Destiny, and some toying with the idea of Rogue and Gambit being locked inside this insane karmic loop -- they continually meet one another throughout time, and there's always a bizarre missed connection. They always meet, but they never connect. There was even talk between luciademedici  and myself about collaborating on a series of shorts that detail these 'missed connections', playing with history and the characters of Gambit and Rogue as they would be in different times and places: continually finding one another in every single life they live, but continually unable to connect properly with one another due to circumstances that are beyond their control. The Rogue and Gambit we see in the show would simply be the most recent incarnation, and their powers and alignments (i.e. X-Men/Acolytes) serving  as the circumstance.

That collaboration, sadly, never happened, but for some reason right now I find myself really wanting to play with the idea more -- polish up "Dalit", and do  a few more, though who knows how many at this point -- so as to 'write' the pages of the Book of Destiny, as it were.

(Because I totally need another writing project right now. This whole thing probably wont be priority on my docket, but I would love to start thinking about it.)

What I'd love from you guys right now is some suggestions of some historical eras. "Dalit" was set in an early 18th century Indian bazaar. What other times and places do you think I could play with? Even suggestions of time periods would be awesome. I'd just appreciate any ideas you guys might have.
How badly do I want to do one in the late forties, early fifties playing with the zoot suit riots, or something that's vaguely Sharks/Jets or Greasers/Socs? Really badly. That's all I got though. Hence the solicitation for suggestions.
