So, in my grand adventures yesterday (a few errands that would normally have taken an hour to run that ended up requiring ALL DAY to accomplish due to Translink dependency), I had to stop by the bookstore in order to clear a couple things up with my manager. She was out for a bit, so I had time to kill.
An X-Men manga entitled “X-Men: Misfits” was

If you liked Kaori Yuki, try Mitsukazu Mihara. They call the the Goth Loli Queen, and that's an apt title. She did a bunch of one volume numbers ("Haunted House", the story of a normal guy whose family is pretty much the Adams Family. It's really darkly humourous and wonderful. "R.I.P." is the story of a man who tries to kill himself but to his chagrin is saved by a renegade angel. It sounds like it's supposed to be funny, but it's short and beautiful, and what it lacks in plot it makes up for in plain old emotional impact. "Beautiful People" is a collection of shorts that all look at how we define what is beautiful. Some really interesting stuff there, and some real food for thought.) and two series ("Doll" is about six, seven volumes long and focuses on the stories of these anthropomorphic robots known as 'dolls'. Some are sweet, some are scary, some are sad, some are as dark as they come. Totally worth a read if only to see her range as a writer. "The Embalmer" is my favourite work by her. It's four volumes long, and plays with the drama of life and death seen through the eyes of an embalmer in Japan -- a country where, apparently, embalming is not looked on kindly. The titular embalmer is a piece of damaged goods himself, which makes for interesting reading. It's bleak story seen through a fractured lens that somehow manages to refract some hope. It's honestly her masterpiece, in my mind.)
Matsuri Hino writes "Vampire Knight", which starts off SO GOOD. It's after the first twenty-some odd chapters though that it falls apart. The love triangle in place through the first chunk is delicious, and holy CRAP does she create my favourite character ever in Zero -- again, severely damaged goods. I think the mangaka hates him though, seeing what she'd been doing to him last time I bothered to read it.
Amen. It's not the Hellfire Club until Emma The White EFFING Queen Frost shows up.
