Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to talk during class. Today we were discussing communication as it applies to businesses and politics. I brought up that some research suggests that when there is a sizeable amount of female participation and representation in the legislature communication is more consensus-oriented and less hostile. (Not that women can't be a territorial as men mind you, but some research suggests that the presence of women seems to be a positive one in legislation.) You would have thought that I had suggested that we get rid of all men in politics by the class's reaction (which the class was all girls). The girls all thought that men belong in politics (more so than women) because they "bond" together... (Completely ignorning all the coups and in-party out-part bickering and posturing. I wonder if these people have ever watched CSPAN or bothered to pick up a history book...) One of the girls went so far as to say, "There are some things men are just better at."
I couldn't believe it!
I am living in the 21st century, right?
