Yeah, ok, I'm getting sort of obsessed. But it's much more fun when you have a title and angles to work. Oh, heck, who am I kidding? Just having angles to work is good enough for me. Titles come and go.
Let me backtrack. A few weeks ago, Johnny Reb (my e-wrestling character) was offered an opportunity at a title shot, in exchange for doing a favor for his boss. That favor involved attacking the (then) Underground Champion after a match. Ordinarily, Johnny wouldn't do anything like that. He's a total face. But there were a number of factors that went into his decision to agree. One: the intended victim wasn't that nice of a guy, and had done some things previously (that really weren't Johnny's business, until he was called upon to handle the situation) to offend the boss. Two: Johnny is nothing if not loyal; when the situation was explained to him, he jumped at the chance to right the perceived wrong. Three: A title shot was involved. Johnny's only been with the company for about 3 1/2 months now. That's usually too soon to even think about a title.
Well, the appointed time came, and Johnny did his thing. At the following pay-per-view show (Vindication,) Johnny dropped the champ in a couple of moves (because something prevented said champ from roleplaying that week, and maybe it was booked that way from the outset,) thus becoming the new Underground Champ. Now, he's drawing some heat. Heat is good. Two weeks ago, he was not mentioned by anyone who wasn't directly competing with him that week. Now, at least one person has mentioned the Inveterate Confederate by name in a promo. So, yay!
And so here is how Johnny is going to be affected by this sudden success:
He feels a lot of loyalty to his boss, so he's going to do a lot of things he might not ordinarily be inclined to do, simply because if the boss tells him to do it, it must be good for the company as a whole. His attitude is changing, also. What we're going to see over the next few weeks is a less gentle version of this Son of the South. He's starting to use curse words more freely, instead of just when he's really annoyed, and is no longer above making more or less direct insults toward his opponents. Oh, he still phrases it nicely. He always will, I think, no matter how bad he gets. The long and short of it is, Johnny is going to make some poor decisions and slip down to the dark side. He'll probably end up alienating his long time friend and fellow wrestler (Doc Henry) along the way. But he's going to be reveling in the glory of having been handpicked for a stable that answers directly to the owner of the company.
So, yeah. He's going heel. For a while, anyway. I don't think it'll be permanent. It should generate some good angles, though.
Plus, he's got gold! Yay!
