I like getting reviews from readers with brains, readers who actually catch the hints I give in stories. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I got to train someone at work this week. Yes, me, who has only been working there for a month. Either this says something about how well I am doing, or it says something about how easy it is to train someone for the job. ;D
Speaking of work, starting on the 29th of this month, the store's hours will be changing. We'll no longer close at 8, but at 9, and since clean-up generally takes an hour, that means that on the days that I work until close, I probably won't get to leave the store until 10. Fun times.
I'll be working until close on Halloween, which is actually just fine with me.
I think I'd rather be working on Halloween than at home gritting my teeth as trick or treaters ring my doorbell repeatedly, asking for candy, and half of them not even bothering to dress up. It really bothers me when kids go trick or treating without making even a small effort to dress up. Trick or treating is a two-part bargain. You dress up and amuse us, we give you candy. If you don't dress up, you're not fulfilling your part of the bargain.
Yes, I know that a lot of families can't afford to spend money on costumes, but honestly, you can make a costume without spending a dime. Last night I was at a Halloween party and I saw someone dressed up as a dryad. How did they do this? They taped fake leaves to their shirt and hair. It worked. It got the message across. It took maybe five minutes. It didn't cost anything. Having little or no money is no excuse for not dressing up.
What I've done in years past when handing out candy to trick or treaters who didn't dress up is I made them tell me what they were really dressed up as. It could be anything from "I'm an undercover cop" to "I'm a basketball star" (if they were wearing a basketball jersey) to pretty much anything, so long as they bothered to use their imagination and give me something in exchange for the candy.
This year, I'll be just as happy working at the store instead of manning the door. I'm still going to get to dress up, which will be fun. I'm going to put my elf ears on and wear my Renaissance costume. :3 It's too bad that my sisters' Renaissance dresses restrict movement so much and are so bulky, or I'd be tempted to wear one of them, because they're really just spectacular. Oh well. My costume works well enough. :3
Not going to bring the hunting dagger, though. Oh ho ho, nooooo~ ;D
