INT. - SOUNDSTAGE - AFTERNOON
A woman walks confidently through the set; face obscured by sunglasses and a stylish yet affordable hat. She makes her way to the make up chair where a man sits; facing away from her. She COUGHS once, just loud enough to gain his attention. He excuses the make-up girl and turns around to reveal DAVID BOREANAZ. He regards the woman for all of two seconds before he recognizes her.

DAVID
(smiles)
CC!

The woman removes her disguise and flashes that CHARISMA CARPENTER Smile.

CHARISMA
(grins)
Hi David.
DAVID
Why didn't you say you were coming by, I would hav...
CHARISMA
(interrupts)
This isn't a social call David; you've heard the news right?
DAVID
(smile falls; replaced by the brood)
About the remake; yeah I heard.
CHARISMA
We need you back David.
DAVID
(grim)
That life's a million miles away from me now; I told Joss after that
last season that I was out. I've made a good life for myself here.
CHARISMA
A good life, playing some pseudo macho federal agent with funny
socks. And don't dare tell me that chick you're working with now is a
better sidekick than me!
DAVID
(grins humorlessly, averts his eyes)
Actually, I'm sorta the sidekick.

Charisma strolls up and grabs him by the back of the head; forcing him to look her in the eyes.

CHARISMA
The guy I knew wasn't second fiddle to anyone. He made his own destiny; this might be a swell gig.

She leans in so that their lips make the barest of caresses.

CHARISMA
But it'll never be what we had.

For a second it looks as if he might give in; but he grabs her wrists, panting.

DAVID
(dejectedly)
Sorry dollface; that tunes been off the jukebox for a while now.

He removes her wrists and sits back in the chair; motioning for the make-up girl to come back. Charisma puts her glasses and hat back on. She pulls a card from her purse and places it on the counter in front of him; it's one of the Angel investigation cards with her number on it. Charisma smiles lovingly and runs the back of her hand along his cheek.

CHARISMA
We could always play it by ear handsome.

A single perfect moment passes as they regard each other. Suddenly he smiles as if he's awoken from a long dream.

DAVID
(stares into her eyes)
I never said thank you.
CHARISMA
(surprised)
When?
DAVID
That last episode; at the end, I never said thank you.
CHARISMA
(tears up; smacks him on the shoulder and smiles)
And you'll never have to you big gorilla.

She turns and struts away; not looking over her shoulder until she reaches the stage door.

CHARISMA
But you so have to do something about the hair.

David smiles as she exits the building; looking up he notices the make-up girl.

DAVID
Hey sweetheart?
MAKE-UP GIRL
Yes Mr. Boreanaz?
DAVID
What's the strongest hair gel ya got?

The End.
