“Jinki, Jinki, Jinki!”
Jinki groans, burying his head into his pillow as he tries to ignore his best friend’s summons from the bathroom.
“Jinki, Jinki, you’ve got to see this!”
No, he was not going to get out of bed just to see the miraculous act of losing a tooth-he was going to ignore Jonghyun and find his ear plugs-
“OHMYGOD, LEE JINKI! Get here right now!”
Jinki groans again as he uses all of his childish might to swing himself off the bed, and pads off to find Jonghyun in the bathroom-with all the time he had been spending there, Jinki thinks, he should just make it his place of residence.
“Which tooth now, Jjong?” Jinki cries as he storms into the toilet, hair unkempt in a crazy mess and eyes barely open. “Will you please stop plucking them out once they start shaking?”
Jonghyun laughs gleefully as he waves a tiny zip-lock bag vigorously in Jinki’s face-Jinki can make out Jonghyun’s tiny tooth still stained with blood in there, and jerks away, retching slightly.
“Don’t do that, it’s gross,” Jinki grumbles, and makes to walk off. “If there’s nothing else, I’m going to go back to sleep now.”
“Oh, come on, Jinki!” Jonghyun whines as he attaches himself to Jinki’s left arm. “Aren’t you happy for me?”
“This is the third time that you’ve plucked out your stupid tooth this week,” Jinki says as he throws himself back onto Jonghyun’s bed, leaving Jonghyun to take the makeshift bed on the floor. “I don’t have much energy left to get excited for you.”
“But it’s a tooth!” Jonghyun cries, jumping up and down excitedly, eyes glinting brightly. “And that means the tooth fairy!”
“You’re not giving the tooth fairy a very easy job if you can’t stop summoning her every two days,” Jinki tells him, his voice muffled behind a pillow. “She’s going to get annoyed, like I am, and not give you any money anymore.”
“Lee Jinki, I will have you know that the tooth fairy is one of the nicest fairies on this planet who loves having to collect little children’s teeth and I don’t ask for money, I make wishes,” Jonghyun says defensively, and pauses to catch his breath. “I make wishes and the tooth fairy grants them.” And then Jonghyun smiles serenely to himself, sighing happily as he lets his thoughts wander.
“Do your wishes even come true?” Jinki says, propping his head on his arm as he looks at Jonghyun incredulously. “And besides, you still get money anyway.”
“Like I said, the tooth fairy is very nice,” Jonghyun sniffles, as he tucks his latest tooth underneath his pillow. “She grants me both wishes and money.”
“I’m not listening to you anymore,” Jinki tells him as he falls back down onto his pillow, closing his eyes. “Goodnight, Jjong.”
“This is why the tooth fairy doesn’t come to you,” Jonghyun says, settling into his bed as well. “She hates grumpy people.”
Jinki snorts, and retires to his sleep.

Jinki doesn’t know when his best friend’s obsession with the tooth fairy started, but he knows that it was a crazy one, and wasn’t very healthy.
Jonghyun would squeal every single time he found a shaky tooth, and stand in front of the mirror wiggling it the whole day till it fell off completely. When that happened, he would then squeal again, place it gingerly into a zip-lock bag, keep it under his pillow and sleep on it immediately.
Jinki worries that Jonghyun would get so desperate for teeth to pluck out that he would start targeting his teeth that weren’t shaky, and end up needing dentures by the time he was twenty.
Jinki had tried to protect Jonghyun from his obsession; banning him from the toilet and even tying up his hands if needed, but that always led to Jonghyun crying (during which the tooth would miraculously fall out), so Jinki gave up eventually.
But this was getting crazy, Jonghyun’s obsession. Jinki had thought that it would stop after a few tooth fairy visits, because Jonghyun had always been one with a short-attention span, but this obsession had last for an unusually long period of time, and Jinki wonders if that was a good thing, or not.

The next morning, Jinki’s sleep is rudely interrupted by Jonghyun’s jubilant screams, and in his annoyance, he falls off the bed onto Jonghyun, making the younger male scream some more.
“You’re going to crush what the tooth fairy gave me! GET OFF ME!” Jonghyun pushes Jinki off hard, and he crashes onto the floor.
“What could she have possibly given you this time?” Jinki says grumpily, rubbing the back of his head.
“She gave me a pretty new ring,” Jonghyun grins widely, showing off his new accessory on his third finger. “We must be very close now if she’s giving my gifts now.”
“Either that, or she ran out of money,” Jinki mumbles under his breath, and holds out his hand. “Let me see it.”
"I’m not letting you touch sacred stuff!” Jonghyun yanks his hand back, and runs away, giggling deliriously.
Jinki buries his head into a pillow again; thinking that this madness has got to stop.

With his head still in a pillow, protecting his ears from Jonghyun’s squeals of joy from outside, Jinki wonders how he could possibly solve this problem-Jonghyun seemed to be getting more and more insane with every lost tooth.
Jinki should have known, from the start, that he shouldn’t have done what he had done, all those years back, when Jonghyun’s obsession had first begun.
It hadn’t been intentional at first, being Jonghyun’s tooth fairy-he had been sleeping over at Jonghyun’s one night when Jonghyun’s first tooth fell out, and Jonghyun’s parents had asked Jinki to help them replace Jonghyun’s tooth with a dollar note, and Jinki had done the deed, because, well, he couldn’t refuse them and he thought it would be amusing, being in on the secret that Jonghyun’s beloved tooth fairy wasn’t real at all.
But then it slowly grew into a routine, doing Jonghyun’s parents’ dirty work, so much so that Jinki stopped replacing Jonghyun’s teeth with their money but using money of his own.
He had collected so many teeth that he had managed to fill up a small sized jar to the brim-Jinki sighs into his pillow, wondering what he has got himself into.
He had run out of pocket money that week, which was why Jinki had no choice but to slip one of his many rings underneath Jonghyun’s pillow yesterday-which, judging by his reaction that morning, simply fuelled his obsession with the tooth fairy even more.
Jinki doesn’t know what to do-it made him happy to see Jonghyun so over the moon every time he received presents from the tooth fairy, but it was so tiring to be one to someone who lost teeth every other day.

“Jinki, my teeth don’t seem to be shaking anymore,” Jonghyun confesses one day after school, a few weeks after his last tooth fell, as the both of them are making their way to Jinki’s house.
I hope they don’t anymore, Jinki thinks to himself, but says, “Don’t worry, Jjong. I’m sure you haven’t lost all your baby teeth yet. You just have very little teeth to lose now.”
“What if my tooth fairy doesn’t visit any more, Jinki?” Jonghyun’s lips are pursed into a worried frown, eye brows furrowed and forehead creased.
“Of course she won’t visit anymore, Jonghyun,” Jinki says, exasperatedly, Jonghyun obviously didn’t know how tiring it was to be the tooth fairy. “Why would she, when you have no more teeth for her to collect?”
“That sucks,” Jonghyun sighs, pouting. “My dentist says that I only have one more baby tooth to lose.”
Thank god, Jinki smiles, feeling a little relieved that his job would be over soon. “Well then, when you lose that last tooth, it’d be the last time the tooth fairy visits,” He says tauntingly, causing Jonghyun to hurrumph and march off into the bathroom, presumably to attempt to make his tooth shaky.

Jonghyun finally loses his tooth after a whole month of shaking it in front of the mirror, and when it falls out, he runs to his bed, tucks it under his pillow, and lies down, closing his eyes, willing sleep to take him now.
Jinki watches all of this from his sleeping bag on the floor, and he allows himself a silent laugh as he thinks about how this is the last time he has to be Jonghyun’s tooth fairy.

Jinki waits till it is 11pm, and is sure that Jonghyun is asleep before he gets up, grabs Jonghyun’s present (a toothbrush-not very original, but it was all he could think of), and creeps towards his best friend’s bed, making to lift up his pillow when Jonghyun jumps up, scaring the wits out of Jinki.
“You’re my tooth fairy? Aww, oh my god! Jinki!” Jonghyun cries, crushing Jinki as he envelopes his best friend in a hug.
“I thought you were asleep,” Jinki says, face smashed against Jonghyun’s shoulder.
“I wasn’t going to fall asleep and miss my last chance of seeing the tooth fairy!” Jonghyun exclaims, grabbing the toothbrush from Jinki’s hands, examining it closely.
“It’s a toothbrush!” Jonghyun cries happily, jumping up and down as he spins Jinki around the room. “Thank you so much, Jinki. Have you been my tooth fairy all along? Or are you her messenger? Where are your wings? Isn’t it too girly a job for you?”
Jinki ignores him completely, wanting to keep some dignity with him. “You did not see me here tonight-I wasn’t holding a toothbrush, I wasn’t looking for your tooth, and I wasn’t a tooth fairy.” As he attempts to walk back to his sleeping bag, Jonghyun stops him with a question.
“Do you know what I always wished for, when I put a tooth under my pillow?”
Jinki turns around, keeps expressionless, and shrugs. “No, what?”
“I wished that we would be best friends forever and ever and ever,” Jonghyun says, grinning. “And now, I’m sure that we will be.”
Jinki can’t help but laugh, and this time he runs over to give Jonghyun a suffocating hug.
A/N: I hope this was okay! (: Thanks for reading, guys. <3
