Sometime during the mid-late evening on Halloween, students and residents anywhere in Bartleby between the hospital and the older historic district likely heard a passing ambulance at some point.
Coincidentally, or not, those expecting Mary and JB at any parties will have found them to be a no-show; furthermore, for several days' worth of class afterward, Mary is absent, nor is she to be found in Getty. She's back on campus somewhere around the fourth or fifth day of the new month.
These two pieces of information may not obviously be connected, particularly given the date. But feel free to have your alt notice one or both things, if they would.
