Review in 5 words or less: Solid, well-told story. Great premise. Characters I just couldn't care about. Abrupt ending.
Personal Rating: ◊ ◊ ½ of 5.
Review: Koontz really knows how to build up suspense and manages to keep up a good pacing throughout the book. His description of the "hell-creatures" is both very creepy and creative (Just where does he get these ideas? I'm impressed) and their effect in the story was seriously scary.
Now it might be because I was on pain-killers when I read the book but for some reason I just couldn't connect with the characters. It wasn't that I found anything about them that put me off - I just couldn't bring myself to care about them - which is really a pity.
Finally I felt that the ending was a bit rushed. There was all this great build-up and then "BOOM!" - the problem is solved all of a sudden. A bit unsatisfying in my opinion.
