Alright, so my birthday's coming up and I'm thinking that it's time for another tattoo. I've already got two Plath tattoos, but she's my ultimate idol and I think that I need one more.

I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest... )

sylvia plath, the bell jar

My most important "reminder" tattoos are two...and are both on my wrists so I can see them constantly. If that's something that's super important/you want to see it all the time, I would put them there. Also, you would be able to cover them up with thick bracelets. I have a friend who has text tattoos on both wrists she covers up with bracelets for the job.

Also, I absolutely love this. :)

I agree. If you want it as a reminder put it where you can see it...my wrist says breathe (I tend to be very high strung) but I think it should say "fucking relax already!!"

Unfortunately I have no input since I'm horrible with placement and design, but I just have to say that those kiwis would make a wicked cool tattoo!

Also, that quote is wonderfully horrible. I should probably man up and finally read The bell jar. Be sure to post pictures once you get the ink.

I really want to, but I'm afraid of what it will do to me. I'm easily affected by what I read and judging from what Plath's poetry is like I'm thinking The bell jar won't exactly be a bundle of joy.

It is a good book, and the writing is wonderful, but if you're easily affected by reading, I would caution against it. I have read it probably twice, and I re-read EVERYTHING I own (I have about 350 books, probably read most of them between 5-20 times each, ha) but I can't really re-read the Bell Jar because the permeating feeling of the book is just depression, it makes ME feel like the bell jar falls on me when I read it and I'd rather avoid that.

Sorry to jump in but I just wanted to offer my experience.

I love that quotation, but it's a little long. It would probably still look nice on your upper arm, or on your back.

I don't want the quote. I just want a picture of the figs as a symbol for it.

In terms of jobs, your forearm should be fine because you can always cover it up if you need to. Just wear long sleeves when you have an interview or client meeting. (In terms of your mom, all I can say is hey, it's your body; you're the one who needs to be happy with the tattoo.)

I love shoulders- but mainly because the foot is about as public as I'd get with tattoos. I want a wrist but I'm afraid to commit to such a public spot lol.

I do love your idea in complete. I love the way you want it drawn and the picture. I cannot wait to see it! It'll be beautiful; I think this is a wonderful reminder to live. :0)

Ooh, I totally forgot about feet! That might be a cute spot, but really fucking painful.

don't mean to be rude, but it's a NEEDLE PIERCING YOUR SKIN AND DRAGGING, it'll hurt no matter *where* you get it.
