I admit I only joined LiveJournal to post this...

This is my first post, so sorry if it has some issues.  I've been planning my first tattoo and have really enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful ones in this community.  Anyway, I'm a very indecisive person and wanted some advice.  Here's the backstory: I've been studying abroad in New Zealand this semester and I'm nearing the end of my time here.  ( Read more... )

1) Straight from the drawings, I'd say all could use a little help which is why you just see a good artist :0) Personally, I'd go with the one Tolkien drew, I think if that's what I were getting it would prob have a bit more meaning and the 2nd one reminds of an elf.
2) I like tattoos on ribs for girls especially so I am horribly biased. A lot of people say they hurt the worst though...Though to the person who said they stretch on the ribs- depends on where you place it If you place it more toward the front, it will prob stretch, especially if you plan on kids. however, more toward the back or up on the ribs, it'll hurt more but you'll most liekly gain weight in the front first.
3) I like "Seed of Courage" but there's a lot you could take from there. I'd say whatever jumps at you most is what you should write if you choose to get that.

I'm kind of partial to the third one as well, I think. I like that it's Tolkien's vision of Bilbo rather than the movies or some random artist.

I'd go for the third image, definitely. I really like your ideas!

Yeah, I was a little concerned about "fattest and most timid" too...

Your suggestion for shortening it is very nice :)

You didn't ask about this, but I figured I'd weigh in since other people are commenting on it:
My first (and currently only) tattoo is a rib piece and it really didn't hurt badly at all. Everyone told me it would and even my artist asked if I was sure I wanted my first piece there, but it just felt like a safety pin scratching me over and over. The worst part was the soft part of my side just below the ribs. The shading didn't hurt at all.

I'm excited to see how it turns out!

i like the idea of getting bilbo blowing smoke rings like in the 2nd picture, but i would take it to an artist and make some changes just to make it more appropriate for a tatoo. any artist will be able to sketch it out and resize it so it works well with your body.

as for the quote, i think "There is a seed of courage hidden" by itself would be awesome. good luck!
