I've always wanted a tattoo. I'd like to get a quote, a nice block of text or a few lines of something beautiful, but, unfortunately, I'm the sort of person who's always changing her mind, always finding something I like a little better than the last thing. So a quote's a bad idea. I figure, though, that something a little more general might be better.
I love books. It's the only sort of passion that I feel that I have. I love words, I love turning pages, I love book fonts, I love the weight of a book in my hands, I love going to libraries and running my hands over the spines of all of the oldest books, sticking my face inside of them and inhaling their smell. I LOVE the smell of dusty old books. Unfortunately, again, looking up 'book tattoos' brings me back to tons of photos of actual quotes.
I've been thinking of getting a book tattooed on my back, over my spine, sitting there as though it's on a shelf. It'd be an older hardcover book, with those intricate little swirling panels above and below the title. I like the parallel of my actual spine and the spine of the book but, 1) that would hurt like a bitch and I've never been tattooed before, and 2) even if it's a fancy book, it seems a little plain, just having a big ol' book tattooed onto the middle of my back.
So I could really use some ideas on something to get. I don't really want just a stack of books or a single open book; I want something that's more interesting to look at than just that. I think I used up all of my creative energy in thinking up the book spine idea and I'm stumped for anything else. Help?
