"When you asked for my hand a few minutes ago, I was still too young to marry." I looked up at him and saw a smile start. "I'm older now, so much older that not only can I marry, but I can beg you to marry me." I knelt and took his hand ( Read more... )

My parents gave me my copy for Christmas 1998 (as says the inscription on the first of three title pages) and I've read it, probably, three billion times since then. I actually had the good fortune to get my copy signed by Gail Carson Levine last September in DC.

The dust-jacket, however, seems to have disappeared. Probably lost forever.

(Ugch, move tie-in covers. Death to them.)

The movie was HORRIBLE compared with the book. I've been trying to find an older version, but no such luck. Damn my family for moving so many times!

The movie is a travesty. On it's own it's cute, but the fact that it's titled Ella Enchanted horrifies me. IT IS NOT ELLA ENCHANTED. Plus, I hate Anne Hathaway. Hate Hate Hate.

I noticed the picture of JK Rowling on your profile page. Were you at the Harry, Carrie and Garp event it's from? I was up in the topmost balcony on the second night.

Ohhhhh, I loved this book to pieces. I first picked it up in a bookstore over ten years ago (!!!!!) and read the first few chapters before begging my mother to buy it so I could finish it. My copy was read so much it practically fell apart and that's saying something for a hardcover!

Mine is about as well loved as the baby-doll I got for my first birthday (who has had "surgery" so many times that I'm basically stitching up stitches at this point). Nothing quite so good as a book that's barely holding itself together.

I love that book. I've read my paperback copy so many times the cover came off.

Heh. Apparently no one has a fully intact copy.

My elementary school library does, as far as I know, LOL.

I discovered this book eight years ago, and I love it with the kind of book-love that totally transcends age. Haha. And, can I just say, Prince Char is still so dreamy.

Same here. I have two paperback copies of it, and neither has a cover. :)

Ella Enchanted: great book, or the greatest book?
