Past, Present, and Future

Well, I had a fit of activity a week ago. I went into the mountains and hiked until I couldn't stop vomiting, (a wonderful combination of dehydration, exhaustion, exposure, and lack of fitness) and then went to the gloriously air conditioned Phoenix Art Museum (free on Tuesdays). I dragged Scott to the Art museum (he doesn't hike), and while I've since recovered from the hiking ordeal, the scars of Post-post Modern art still remain. On my soul. We went to Joe's Crab Shack to help us forget those horrible portals of pretension. Delicious.

This week we've been waiting to hear back from Nival. We hope to use their engine for a Western RPG (the one mentioned a while ago). They've said it is available, but haven't yet sent us details. If things line up, Scott will continue to study and rally programmers and artists here, while I go somewhere more appropriate for a writer. If we pull this off, then UAT won't have been a complete waste of effort (or money).

I've also recently seen both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Grindhouse. TMNT was epic. Patrick Stewart, man... Awesome. Grindhouse perfectly captured the essence of shameless exploitation films. Which means that it's absolutely terrible. I recommend it highly to anyone with a dark sense of humor and a numbed sense of regard for others. Anyone else will be too blinded by horror to get the occasional laugh the movie offers.

In a week, dad will have flown down. I should be mostly packed by then. With his help, I'll finish up, and we'll say goodbye to Arizona. On the trip back we hope to stop at the Grand Canyon (which everyone has already seen except me) and any other sites of interest between here and home. It'll be quite a drive.

In the three months that follow, I'll be home. I'll get a job, and a chance to catch up with everybody. That means D&D and Mage with Heath, D20 modern and Philosophy with Adam and the church, a visit to Egg at DePauw, another tour of IUB (this time with John), and any other parties or reunions I can scare up. Good stuff.

Love,
Brian
