Two months, 7 days, and 13 1/2 hours of driving later and honeys, I'm home! I actually got home late Friday night but please feel free to take my hat, kiss my cheek, and tell me that the porn is ready and waiting on the table regardless.
The last couple of days have been spent getting California out of my system. Had to spend a little quality time with Tacoma of course and visit most of my favorite haunts; Point Defiance, the taco place, the waterfront, the cemetery, and of course the comics shop. Oh Puget Sound area, you're so much cooler and sexy pretty with your green and I'll never leave you for that long again. California meant nothing to me.
Then
isilweth was kind enough to help me get some of the geek glee that's built up in the months being surrounded by nothing but Muggles with no fannish feeling out of my system by meeting with me and talking about Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe, Smallville, and Tim Drake for 13 hours straight. Imagine if that had let loose in an uncontrolled environment, on some poor unsuspecting innocent. (
superduckling, you probably owe
isilweth a thank you card)
I also had to get used to being around my family again. To my dad's breaking the phone in half temper tantrums, to my mom's grating as hell tipsy voice, to the damn dog. To all the new things. My brother's voice dropped and he's suddenly handsome and apparently, sometime while I was gone,
The Soup became a family bonding show. My mom *and* dad both laugh their asses off watching it. It's bizarre and I'm thinking pod people could be involved.
I'm also pretty sure that my parents are getting divorced. Or separated. Or whatever you want to call it when one lives one place and the other lives somewhere else. Which is just. Whatever. I'm sick of their shit. It's still great to be home.
My inbox is insane and scares me but I've begun slowly chipping away at it. Expect dropped conversations to be awkwardly brought back up and here's my blanket statement - I'M SORRY FOR HOW LAMELY LONG IT TOOK ♥
Speaking of which before I do anything else - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO
mskatej,
sockich, and
foreword!! I hope your days were as awesome as you all are.
Now. There's been a bunch of shit that's been making me happy. It might make you happy too.
At the top of that list -
NIGHTWING IS GETTING A NEW WRITER! Can I get a FUCK YES because FUCK YES!! I have no idea what this dude's work is like but he wants to bring the Bat family into things more and can I get another FUCK YES!
I want to embrace the Bat Family aspects more. Sure, Nightwing is his own man at this point, but he's part of a family and there's no getting around it. I'd be a fool not to try and mine that dramatic potential. He's got the best supporting cast in comics: Batman, Robin, and Alfred.
The more I've been thinking about the family dynamic between them, I find myself looking at it in this way: Bruce, in my opinion, isn't a father figure to Richard, he's an older brother. There's simply not enough years - at least the way it's being presented now in terms of age difference within the DCU timeline - to justify the father/son thing. And then you have Alfred, who really is the father to Bruce and Richard in my eyes. Now the Bruce/Tim dynamic is definitely a father-son relationship, and the Richard/Tim dynamic is, of course, a brother thing, and that connection between Richard and Tim is an aspect I intend to delve deeper into.
Emphasis mine. Tim and Dick haven't really shown up in each other's books in forever. I COULD DANCE. The Bruce and Dick are brothers thing gives me scary images of Bruce giving Dick noogies or something, and I don't know wtf is with calling Dick 'Richard' every second but hope! That's what I have. Anything has to be an improvement at this point. Watching my dog take a crap is more engaging than reading current issues of Nightwing.
Know what else? Get ready to holler FUCK YES again because
CHUCK DIXON IS COMING BACK TO ROBIN. I came around on Beechen's work but this is Chuck Dixon. The man gets it done.
And still in other Robinly news, have you guys seen the
art sneak peeks for the new
Tiny Titans series? I know you can click that link yourself but I don't care. BABY ROBINS.
Robin always has to be the best. God. IS EVERYBODY FUCKING DEAD FROM HOW CUTE THAT IS?!
It doesn't seem possible right, but it gets cuter.
I really. CAN'T. This series is going to make my life.
The only way that Tiny Titans looks like it could be any more awesome is if
Southern Belle Bruce were to pick them up from school.
Or you know if there was a Superboy in it. But no. DC's too busy getting out of paying up by carefully calling him nothing but Conner, disguising the S symbol on his memorial statue, and renaming Superboy Prime - Superman Prime. We have to find our Kon doses someplace else. Luckily
glitterandlube wrote more of him. This time with
Chocolate Ice Cream and Orgasms. And no matter how many times you think you've read and re-read all the Tim/Kon in the world, sometimes something will pop up to surprise you. Like this ficlet by
thete1 -
Sweeter Far Than All - in which Tim contemplates Kon's ass and I smile till it hurts.
For more Tim porn see
From your memory to this instant; Or, Forensics by
glossing. There's Dick and Jason and Holly and it's sort of screwball and romantic and hot and everything beautiful about Dick/Tim. It'll blow your damn mind.
For a dose of a more Harry Potter nature see

The Good Sleep Better. One is
mistful so you don't need me to tell you how wonderful it is, and the other is a Trio ♥ coda and will warm you from your head to your toes.
You know I fully intended to make this a short entry. I don't know how this happens. Here listen to something besides me.
Songs of the day aka the songs that kept me awake and not dead on the drive home:
1)
Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress) - The Hollies - The song that I came back to the most and turned to in my sleepiest can't-keep-my-head-up times. Kick Ass. Period.
2)
Ten Crack Commandments - Notorious B.I.G - Did you read that title?! Yeah. That says it all. By the time I was home, there was a foot tapping dance routine worked out.
3)
I Like Birds - The Eels - This song is ridiculous. And awesome. With that genius pause and the whistling. And the B sound. B's a good times kind of sound. Birds, Beetle, Bill. Just awesome.
4)
La Lola - Cafe Quijanos - No idea what's going on or what they're talking about. I do know that it makes me want to dance sexy and maybe lick lime and salt off people.
5)
Moons and Horror Shows - The Zutons -
glitterandlube sent me this song with the note that it was the real Smallville theme song. Imagining the kind of Smallville that would fit this song did wonders for the boredom. Seriously. Lex and Clark on hayrides and stuff. Picture it.
6)
Love Song - Living Legends - This comes from a mix that my sister and I listened to a lot when I was staying with her for a few days in San Francisco. This particular one came on when I was draining my blisters and she was trying to squeeze herself into her jeans and we both looked at each other at the same time and 'god, we kill it' and we were cracking up and being us.
7)
Can't Forget About You - Nas - Another song from that mix. Check out the Nat King Cole sampling. Brilliant!
One last joyous thing and then I'm shutting up. It's Wednesday and you know what comes out? A bunch of awesome Green Lantern (randomly, I so need some Green Lantern icons - have any of you seen any good ones?), Dinah and Ollie getting married, and a GUY GARDNER MINIMATE!
Look at it!!
I CAN'T WAIT TO HOLD IT IN MY HANDS. He has the clunky boots and the ugly vest and the bowl cut and everything!
And
in honor of one of the greatest comic panels in comics history . .
Take a second to appreciate that. Bruce's 'hnn's are quickly becoming one of my favorite things about the world. Really though. Best possible use of a power ring yes or no?
And Bruce's response -
Comics are too great for their shirt. So great it hurts.
Mini Guy's going on a weekly mooning rotation on my shelf so that he can give all of the characters equal ass time. It'll be legendary.
I'm home!!
