HEROES!

Spoilers for tonight's truly AWESOME episode of Heroes behind the cut!

Gah, there was so much to love about this episode! I'm just going to have to bullet it, because I can't possibly do prose!

1) SYLAR

Okay, hands up everyone who agrees with me that Zach Quinto needs an Emmy nom for his performance in tonight's episode. *hand shoots in the air* That was just awe-inspiring. I've loved Sylar from the start (yes, even though he's a psychotic serial killer - so sue me!), but after tonight's episode, I am LUSTING after him. When he asked his mother to tell him he could just be a watchmaker, that he didn't HAVE to be "special"... Oh God, I'm tearing up all over again! Such a beautiful, beautiful performance!

2) PETER and CLAIRE

Dammit, people -- can we please just get Tim Kring to admit Peter and Claire aren't related so we can stop feeling dirty about loving the eye sex? And there was a LOT of eye sex in this episode. Dear God, was there ever. *fans self* That scene in the end, where Claire's crying and she tells Peter, "When I met you, I felt like I was a part of something." And then Peter tells her he felt the same way, and he wipes her tears away...

*THUD*

Yeah, no sexual tension there at all. Nope, no chemistry. Uh-uh. Strictly familial. NOT!

And the part where Peter gives Claire the gun and tells her to shoot him in the back of the head if he starts to go nuclear... Sweet Lord in heaven, I was squealing like a truly obsessed fangirl. I NEED FIC!!!! And now we know why, in Peter's vision, Claire says, "I'm sorry," and runs away. She can't bear to kill him! *SNIFFLE* IT'S LOVE!

And then the VERY very end, when Claire runs to her father and hugs him, and he says, "I love you, Claire-bear." *SOB!* Every week I love Jack Coleman more and more! And then to have the wonderfulness of the scene compounded by the true awesomeness of Peter starting to turn fire orange and calling out to CLAIRE for help... I'm sorry, but this is my special little corner of heaven!!!

3) NATHAN and ANGELA

Okay, either Ma Petrelli is one cold-hearted woman, or she's not really Nathan's mother. That's the only explanation I have for why she could so coolly tell her eldest son that killing millions of innocent people is okay, and she knows he can do it. I toyed with the idea that it might have been Candice PRETENDING to be Ma Petrelli, but I don't think Linderman would take her off guard duty on Micah this close to the election. So I'm taking this opportunity to pimp MY pet theory about the Petrelli lineage, and it is this:1) Nathan is NOT Angela's natural born son, but he IS Claire's father
2) Peter IS Angela's natural born son, but he is NOT Claire's uncle
3) Sylar IS Angela's natural born son, making him Peter's biological brother
Hear me out. First off, Ma Petrelli told Peter way back in the second or third episode that he was her favorite son. Because he's her baby boy? Or because out of the two, he's the only one related to her by blood? It could certainly go a long way toward explaining her frosty attitude toward not only Nathan, but Claire as well; the progeny of her non-progeny.

Secondly, it seems natural to me that the two character's with similar abilities would be brothers. Peter and Sylar both have the ability to absorb other people's powers: Peter by osmosis, Sylar by ingestion. They are truly the ying to each other's yang. If you like to believe in foreshadowing, then maybe Nathan!Sylar's statement from "Five Years Gone" is a clue of things to come: "Brother versus brother. It's almost biblical." I'm not saying he was being literal, because he clearly wasn't -- but it would be a neat piece of pre-filing on the part of the writers if they could turn it into a prophetic statement, don't you think?

But what about Peter's seemingly psychic/empathic connection with Nathan? He was able to see the crash that paralyzed Heidi, right? So they MUST be linked somehow, right? Not necessarily. Peter's ability is essentially an enhanced form of empathy. After living so long in Nathan's presence -- truly living as his brother -- then it would only make sense for them to have a connection. That doesn't mean they have to be blood relatives.

I have a theory that Nathan is actually Linderman's son, and perhaps he was given to the Petrelli's as a foster child, because it was only through the Petrelli connection that he could rise to power as preordained by destiny. If he grew up a Linderman, he'd be too closely connected with organized crime dealings, and couldn't make a legitimate run for the White House. But as the son of a Petrelli... Well, that name opens doors. When Angela told Claire that she regretted many of the choices in her life, maybe one of those choices was giving up her natural born son in exchange for Linderman's. I'm envisioning some kind of baby swap at the hospital; maybe Linderman is Gabriel's clockmaker father? The one who Sylar's mother seemed to dislike so intensely? Linderman certainly has a knack for intricate detail. And if he IS Nathan's natural father, then it could explain Claire's ability to heal. Much like Peter and Sylar, Linderman and Claire are two sides of the same coin: Claire can heal herself, Linderman can heal others. Maybe it's a patrilineal connection.

But what about Isaac's paintings? No one knew about the explosion or Nathan's election before Isaac's paintings, right? I don't think so. If we're to believe Ma Petrelli, it sounds like the plans for this disaster have been in the works a lot longer than six months. A LOT longer. I don't know how, but that's something I'm sure we'll learn more about as time goes by.

And my final piece of proof... The eye sex.

You cannot deny the power of the eye sex! How can those two POSSIBLY be related? Just look at them!

Okay, so that's MY theory, and I think it's a pretty good one! Or, as Colin Raye epitomized in song, "That's my story and I'm sticking to it!" :D
