The men downstairs, of exotic import, are barking in duck-like rhythms like aliens in a Tim Burton movie. Someone in my building is smoking pot, and I light incense and a sea breeze candle and sip tea against the silken straps of night ( Read more... )

The Good Shepherd was interesting...though I found some of it a bit odd. Well...mainly just his son.

Night at the Museum was a plesant surprise. I expected nothing and got a couple hours of fun.

What'd you think?

I found most of The Good Shepherd a bit odd. There were some shining moments but, damn, what a long movie (and what a weird son).

I shared your reaction to Night at the Museum. On the subject of movies, all films recently pale next to Children of Men, which is of such cinematic ingenuity I'm increasingly impressed the more I think about it. It's the must-see film this winter.

My plan is to see Children of Men within the week. I've been waiting for it to pop up in a theater within 100 miles. (Boo, limited release!)

Still coming to CA? It's uber fun.

The plan is go to CA after I cash in on my free grad degree, or if I see an amazing employment opportunity that warrants skipping out on the degree altogether...

Ah, yes...a noble plan, indeed!

I caught Children of Men tonight and I was blown away. As a vfx buff, I loved the seamless integration of effects with the story. It's the first film I've ever seen where I felt that the effects actually complimented the film and weren't there just to keep the viewer's attention.

I want to see it again.

Now!

You're absolutely right about the effects complimenting the film without merely being eye candy-it is awesome.

The genius of the script keeps escalating in retrospect as I piece together more clues that Theo has fallen down the rabbit hole and most of the movie is his fantasy for hope, a psychological journey rather than a literal one.

I also want to see it again. (Now!)
