James hadn't ever expected to be interviewed for a paper. That's not to say that he didn't dream of it or wish, hard, that it would happen. But the fact that there was someone who was actually interested in writing a piece on him was flattering. Surprising as hell, but flattering.
After telling Maddy where the show was in Bethel, he loitered around the area right passed the gates so she could see him. There were security guards everywhere, ensuring a too-curious fan didn't get into the arena without permission. He was checking over his set list and chatting with some of the crew members, glancing around every now and again for anyone who looked like they could be a reporter.
