Okay, so I usually feel like a sham Children's Librarian (which is to be expected because I am not a librarian yet and I don't work in the Children's department) HOWEVER, I do host story times and other occasional events for kids at the library, but usually I think my ideas for events are either painfully obvious (Hey it's Xmas, let's make gingerbread) or else they're assigned (Hey it's Teen Tech Week, do something).
In any case, I randomly checked out
They Might Be Giants, Here Come the 123s and got so many great ideas just from listening to the fun songs on there. Apparently inspiration comes from indie hipster musicians turned puppets.
Who knew?
So my first idea when I heard this song, which I want to dance the night away to, is that I *need* to have a math themed storytime. I can read Math Curse and have the kids jam out to this:

Puppet Elton FTW!
And then I'll put on a stick puppet play of this cute little song on our puppet stage:

Followed by more jamming. This is what cool kids music sounds like, people:

Okay, so awesome, right? Except better is to come!
I recently read
Princess Pigsty and it is so super I'm planning a Girls Don't Have to Be Girly story time.
This will defintely include this song, which I think
mimibean will enjoy:

I have to say I'm pretty sure the "Peggys" only wear one shoe for a specific reason, but I guess maybe that's too grisly for the Disney channel?
So then last, but not least, is this song, which is cute enough that I want to include it in my June Make-Your-Own-Musical-Instrument story time. Apparently it's from a show called Higglytown Heroes (yeesh, in my day kids shows had normal names, gawdangit! like H.R. Pufnstuf).

Lastly, no inspiration really comes from watching this insanely (cutest thang EVAR!) video, except I now want Geist to have a little floating fedora. :)
