From libation

Leave a random comment here about anything you want. I will respond with five questions about you. You can answer them here or create a post in your journal, whichever you prefer.

If you want post this in your journal too so you can ask me five questions.

Here are my the five questions I was asked along with my answers.

1. What was your first impression of me (libation )?
You're redheaded and therefore cooler than the average person. I also thought you were cooler than most because Paul gushed about this tea party you hosted and the place card you made him with the white rabbit on it that he still has and treasures.

2. What was a major epiphany you have had in your life? How old were you when you had it?
Other people are real (i.e. the world is not centered around me). This is an ongoing process of discovery. I really must be pretty narcissistic because I forget all the time that other people have lives and existences that extend beyond my interactions with them. I was actually taken aback for a second by your story of T and the paddleboat. You describe it so well it felt real, yet I have no recollection of it (obviously) so my brain went lurch.

3. Soundtrack of your life: what songs best represent childhood, middle school, high school, college, early twenties, and late twenties/early thirties for you? It can be a song that you loved at the time or a song that reflects how you felt during that time.
I'll just talk about what I listened to... As a kid I loved making up songs and rhymes and did it pretty much all the time. In early middle school my nieces and nephews were kids and so I discovered kids music. I loved Farmer in the Dell, and Daisy (the Bicycle Built For Two song).

Later in middle school I liked Cyndi Lauper and Madonna, which lead to early high school, when I went through a brief fugue state which included Mariah Carey and Gloria Estefan as viable musical choices. Later in high school I started to like Enigma, Ace of Bass and Milli Vanilli. "Not my finest moment." This was also when I discovered Dave Matthews Band.

During college my musical tastes improved somewhat at least. I realized most of the music I had liked previously was pretty shitty and started listening to REM, STP, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and NIN. I credit my half-brother with this normalizing musical influence. My tastes pretty much stayed there until I met dedos after college. He introduced me to Tori, Bjork, Suzanne Vega and a cavalcade of other chick rock singer who make up a huge part of my repertoire today.

Working at Borders (for as little as I did) also opened me up to a new world of lanky indie rockers, like The Decemberists and Death Cab for Cutie. Currently you are my biggest source of new music. I wouldn't even know how to begin finding new music other than relying on trusted friends with good taste. (Though I guess Pandora has helped somewhat in that field.) You've introduced me to two of my favorite singers. Amiee Mann and Joanna Newsom. Also I've always (even as a kid) enjoyed classical music. Currently my fave style is Baroque chamber music, dig that wild harpsichord, man.

4. What are the most important non-standard qualities you look for in a friend? A standard quality would be stuff like "loyal" or "good listener" whereas a non-standard thing would be "great hair" or "exotic pet owner."
It's shallow, but I like having attractive friends. I don't want to stare at ugly people all the time! That said once I like someone I adjust their attractiveness value up. It's all so subjective. I like quirky sense of humor, intelligence is a must, a definte sense of style/flair is something I admire (as long as it comes across as natural rather than as posturing). My favorite friends are the ones who introduce me to new things. I love feeling like I've met a guide who is going to show me this whole other view of the world I didn't know existed. Damnit, now I want to give you all big, squishy hugs.

5. What do you think dreams mean or signify? Or, simply, what are dreams?
I think most dreams really are just the detritus of the day and/or "a blot of mustard". That said I do think some dreams are defintely portents, messages, or even something else. It's just a matter of figuring out which are what and what to do about them.
