Sound and Silence

First, did you know we have godtube.com now? Yeah, if you like me or like reading my blog that may have just made you throw up in your mouth a little bit. Not a fan of the organized religion here, primarily because I've known 1 person in my life who was devoutly religious and not completely batshit insane. One person who actually seemed to live their faith rather than give it lip service and use it as an excuse to bully people and feel superior.

One of my, now apparently, vaguely religious sisters (Pascal would be proud) took it upon herself to shove some smarmy crap into my inbox about the Hoyt's and their inspirational tale. Whatever, horray. I'm glad that retardy guy has a magical nice family that does shit for him. You still suck, along with most of the rest of the yahoos that genetics has linked me to.

So in the interest of fairness, and to keep this from devolving into a rant (too late?) I will include a poem that one of our guest employees at the library introduced me to. It made me happy today in a way that handicapped people and their religion that millions of people have died because of does not.

The rest, as they say, is Silence.

Silence
by Marianne Moore

My father used to say,
"Superior people never make long visits,
have to be shown Longfellow's grave
nor the glass flowers at Harvard.
Self reliant like the cat --
that takes its prey to privacy,
the mouse's limp tail hanging like a shoelace from its mouth ---
they sometimes enjoy solitude,
and can be robbed of speech
by speech which has delighted them.
The deepest feeling always shows itself in silence;
not in silence, but restraint."
Nor was he insincere in saying, "'Make my house your inn'."
Inns are not residences.
