Um.... hi? Plus Japanese art.

So, it's been a while (ahem) since I posted.

I've been thinking why bore my friends with my rants when I can bore the whole internets!

Enough of that.

So I was at MIA today with James and we saw a lot of artsy Japanese... art. Some favorites include beautiful calligraphy that zipped and zinged all over the place, and gilded folding screens with scenes I kept expecting to walk into.

The most interesting piece to me was a wall hanging about a scholar with a fascinating backstory whose name I can't remember. He studies and passes every exam necessary, but when the time comes the government official in charge will not give him a position because his "countenance is too ungainly and wild" (or something like that). Whatever-his-name-is becomes so distraught that he dashes his head against the stairs to the palace and dies. The emperor is extremely upset by this and grants a title to him posthumously. His spirit, happy with the post-mortem hiring appears and pledges to always guard Japan against evil. I tried to get a picture for Terry, but the paranoid part of me was afraid of the weird look the guards were giving me.

Of course that might have just been because of my crazy hobo beard, fantastic hat hair and tendency to stand just a little too close to the artwork.

Found a cute thing for Amanda, there. *sigh* Sometimes a little girly part of my heart wishes I could have pretty things.

Off to see Chris tomorrow! Huzzah!
