Back now! Heeey, how funny is it that I said I'd back on the sixth, and it's the tenth? Not that funny, whatever I am not the universe.
Christmas was the usual gong show. Uh, like, surprise -- being a dick is inherited, so let's all put on our lollerskates! It was also lovely and snowy, even downstate. The weather hasn't really been bad the whole time I've been here, either; wet and moderately cold, at worst. I have a ton of outerwear here, both from previous years and Christmas presents, so it hasn't been bad at all and counterpoint, my mother bought me a very nice coat which has not come in the mail yet, but will be prized beyond understanding uh, next winter.
Otherwise, mostly I blew my diet, and knitted a lot, and watched some hockey. Often all at the same time! It's good to be home, and I am thinking of coming back in April as well, to stave off situational loneliness and a lack of travel plans. That is how much I love it! WOW that comment made me sound like a jerk who wears too much black eyeliner.
This was getting long! Time to switch to bullet-points.
-My father and stepmother are hilariously unsuited for life in suburban Pennsylvania. Of course they are being terrible about it.
-Team USA! The Winter Classic was pretty good times, although, really, who told Leighton he could start? I was really psyched for that though, and it came through. TIMMYBEAR yet also the forward corps (minus Drury ugh get injured in late January please) and really really defencemen. Nasty bitches, this should be great fun to watch! (Also I can incorporate drunken and delighted sex into the not-really-a-Canadiens-story-anymore yesssssss.)
-The Canes at Rangers game was AWESOME. My brother even volunteered to wear my "Staal 12" shirt, and cheer when the Canes scored AS THEY DID IN OVERTIME WAY TO GO WHITS. Best! I promise to post about this soon.
-Inclusive to all of this was the World Juniors! Highly enjoyable, even some of the blow-outs a little? Unfair, yes, and unkind, yet enjoyable. The CAN-USA games were great! I am not merely saying this because I was all ready to be pleased that the Oilers have a super-clutch scorer in Eberle, and that silver would still look hot on Fowler, until, WHAT THE HELL CARLSON. Team USA! I will have to post some pictures of my Team USA scarf and also maybe Twitter about them all the time? OH shoot I did not mean to go on like this.
-My brother and the dog have both been feeling low, so this week has been a lot of driving to various appointments for them, and singing Gaga in the car. And wearing my new and awesome plaid aviator hat. More or less amazing.
And fic things! Last year I resolved to publish a story every month, ahahah. (This year, I resolved for Aaron Ward to be a good hockey player.) Nonetheless, I wrote and posted two Hawks stories late in December.
In
yuletide, for
sheesusnat I wrote
Out at the lake. It is only one-half, maybe one-third, Hawks. Mostly, Parises! Zach is sort of a loner, Jordy does not help things and then Jonny Toews shows up. It's less frenetic that I implied there, mostly because
faded-lilac told me to stop using so many commas and also to make it better.
For
happyhockeydays and
slumber I wrote
Snow Day. It is all Hawks, hooray! It is silly, and you can probably tell I watched so so so much
Blackhawks TV (sneaky link, ahahah they try to sing) while writing it. Originally, it was longer, but then it kept on being sexy, which was not awesome.
Well, that's enough from me. For
yuletide I still got
A Marriage of Inconvenience, which I still love, and went on about
here. I am almost sure it's by
sexybee! It's still awesome, if you like romance novels, or people being irrepressible, or things that are great, you should read it.
And, finally, for
happyhockeydays I recently read this,
manic/depressive by
badalice. Mostly, it's about Dany Heatley trying to keep going, except it's broad and deep and awesome. I know, many of you suffer through all kinds of hockey discussion, with additional pain when I mention Heatley, and I am sorry, but that is so not the point right now. I do not have enough good things to say about this story; !!! is what my current state is, no really. It's not simple, and nothing about it is easy, but it's perfect, and about how people actually interact, and all the work that goes into maintaining relationships; failed, normal, secret, obvious, and some combination of the above. Sharks/Sens fic, come onnnn, how great is that? It's very evocative, and very good. Please, read it, now.
