Parents and Video Games...

Aug 23, 2008 16:22

According to a recent survery on the parental gaming site What they Play parents are more afraid of their kids playing a violent video game than they are drinking underage or watching porn. WTF people! Also in the little tidbit I watched on Yahoo! 17% of people who own GTAIV are underage, who bought these kids a game where running people over with a car is a great way to pass the time? Their parents. Dear lord until parents actually take the time to read up on the games their kids are interested in, or even read the MSRP rating on the box and make informed choices they shouldn't have the right to make such a fuss over video games. I am so tired of gaming being the latest scapegoat for "the problems to today's youth" I've played video games since I was 8, yes some of them were violent, some had very adult content but you know what? I didn't play those sorts of games until I was at least 16-17 and I always informed my parents of what I was interested in. Now I know most kids won't do this, so it's the parents job...so honestly people if you are going to let your kids play video games get involved and stop trying to ruin the industry for those of us who are A) adults and B) were mature enough at your kids age to actually be up front with OUR parents.
