Mighty fine shindig!

This past Saturday the members of The Guild of St. Luke got together for a cast party. For those of you that don't know, St. Luke's is the re-enactment group that I'm apart of at The Northern California Renaissance Faire. Strangely enough, It just so happens that nearly all of us are huge fans of Firefly and Serenity. So, instead of simply having a "party," we threw a shindig! Everyone was encouraged to come in costume and provide a potluck dish to share.

On Friday I spent the night at fairegoddess ' apartment. Se lives closer to our guild mistresses house than I do, and it made sense to save on the commute time. She had me watch a couple of Doctor Who episodes and I am officially hooked! We watched "Rose," "The Girl in the Fireplace," "The Runaway Bride," "The Unicorn and the Wasp," and "Blink." They were all so much fun and I can't wait to watch more!

The next morning we made our potluck dish to bring. Seeing as the theme was Firefly/Serenity, we made Fruity Oaty Bars! :D I found a recipe online and they actually turned out pretty tasty. Lindsay than got the genius idea to decorate an old cereal box with images from the infamous commercial and serve the bars from it. It turned out great and we had so much fun making it.

The night was a lot of fun and it was wonderful seeing everyone again. I had a bit of an issue near the end of the night when I couldn't find my phone. It's a long story, but the jist of it is that I picked out a new phone yesterday only to get a call last night from someone saying that they had found my old phone and wanted to get it back to me. The account's been canceled by now, but I can at least get the sim card back. I'm hopefully going to be swinging by tonight to pick it up from them.

I watched the Oscars last night and thought they were alright. I admit that I hadn't seen many of the nominated films, but I hope to change that soon. I am so excited that Kathryn Bigelow won Best Director. It's the first time in history that a woman has held that title and it's about damn time! I really enjoyed the Academy's tribute to horror films. The orchestra played famous horror film scores set against a montage of classic horror scenes. It was really well done! My only complaint? They fucking included Twilight in the montage sequence. DO NOT WANT. Apart from being terrified by the franchise as a whole, Twilight is NOT a horror film.
