As soon as Lancer knew Ms. Manson had the video footage of the lake's deep one trying to catch ducks he knew he was in some sort of trouble. As soon as he saw Kwan's reaction to the footage hitting the internet Lancer knew where that trouble was coming from ( Read more... )

When he saw Sam's post on her journal, Kwan had a sinking feeling in his gut, like he had just swallowed a brick or something. After clicking the link and watching the video, he could only sit at his computer and twitch and try to contain the explosion that was threatening to come out.

As soon as he heard the car pull up in front of the house, Kwan stalked out of his room and to the front door, glaring at it and waiting for Lancer to enter.

Key in the lock turned with an ominous click. Door creaked as it opened, a long, loud sound. Lancer cringed when he saw Kwan through the door.

"I swear, I didn't know she was there," he said in a pitiful form of defense. As though it would help or matter.

Kwan glared, arms crossed and foot tapping an angry rhythm on the floor. "What if it had been someone other than Sam?" he demanded. "You should have been more careful! What if there had been more than one person? What if they want to catch you and dissect you or whatever it is those crazy type of people do!?" He was trying very hard not to shout at Lancer.

"I would have known if there was something dangerous," Lancer defended. Weakly. "Samantha isn't dangerous."

"She posted that film of you on the internet!" he hissed angrily.

"I know," Lancer said. "I saw it earlier today. It's on the internet and therefore no one's going to take it seriously."

He really hoped.

"Maybe, maybe not," Kwan grumbled, lips pursed in anger. "Or maybe more people will go to the lake and stalk it in hopes of catching any sign of the 'lake monster.'"

He frowned and looked away. "Masters's gone. I don't want to lose you too."

"You're not going to lose me," Lancer promised. He stepped forward, arms open, to wrap Kwan in a hug.

Kwan let Lancer hug him, resting his head on the man's shoulder. "It worries me when people see you like that."

Lancer kept Kwan in the hug. "Would it bother you less if you came with me?" he asked. "To make sure I don't do anything stupid."

Kwan's first response was to yell at Lancer for even thinking about going back there now. But he held his tongue and thought it over a little. "Does that mean more lake magic lessons?"

"All you had to do was ask," Lancer said. He held Kwan at arm's length. "If it makes you feel better I won't go down to the lake unless you're with me. Okay?"

"Sweet!" Kwan exclaimed, grinning. Despite some rather awkward situations, he always liked learning new things with magic.

"When do you want to go?" Lancer asked. He was pleasantly surprised to see that his strategic manipulation was working so well.

"When is the next time you have a free day?" Kwan asked, eager to learn.

"Perhaps daylight would be a bad idea given it's harder to sight monsters at night," Lancer pointed out. "How do you feel about a night lesson?"
