[Jack is home from his seaside adventure and immediately writes out four very quick notes to certain people, not bothering with filters or any of that rubbish:]
[ finding the note is like a shot of cheer on an otherwise kind of...unhappy half of a week. it has her up and gathering her things from a library table (why yes, buffy had been researching something -- tell no one).
buffy hits up a few possible places around the village before she stops by the bridge. if he isn't here, then she is going to continue straight on to the cullen house. ]
[It might not look like Jack is at the bridge, probably because he is lurking in the small stand of trees just on the other side of the bridge--the House 7 side. Sword drawn and unsavory deeds on the brain, waiting.]
[All Jack hears are light footsteps on the bridge; a quick glance through the evergreen branches confirms that it is Buffy and he considers his options:
1) Attack without warning.
2) Attack WITH warning.
3) Don't attack at all.
4) Test his own stealth.
5) There IS no option five.
Sword still drawn, Jack will wait until she has passed before following her, keeping to the trees and staying as quiet as he can.]
[Buffy may or may not see the tip of a coattail whisk behind a tree trunk at that backward glance. The fine rain setting in may make it more difficult to see Jack as he follows.]
[ there! she pauses, turning entirely and staring hard at that tree trunk. three seconds before she frowns and continues on the path. listening as she walks. ]
[This is fun. Jack tries to close the distance between them, which is difficult because he is running out of cover. He skirts around a clear patch, hoping to get a bit ahead of her now.]
[ part of her wonders if it's jack. but a larger part of her is more focused on whether it's a baddie. nina or warren who hadn't really left or that big bad vampire named katherine.
she reaches behind her and takes a sheathed knife from her back jean pocket. ]
[Jack notices the knife, but he's paying more attention to the fact that Buffy looks beautiful in the rain. A stand of white pine close by the path makes a good hiding spot, a place where he can watch her. Kennedy once stated in not so many words that Buffy wasn't properly "mysterious," but Jack, seeing her so wary and alert and lovely, very much disagrees with that.]
[When she passes the stand of trees, Jack reaches up and gives the branch arching over the path a shake, dislodging a heavy downpour of water droplets that had collected on the needles.]
[ that gains a sudden gasp. buffy tightens up; defensive. she turns about and alternates wiping water from her eyes with scanning the stand of trees. ]
...Jack? [ because what other stealth-stalker would soak her in rainwater? but the knife is still ready. just in case. ]

buffy taps her open palm on the rail before continuing forward -- back towards house seven and the lake far beyond it. ]
