i have finally found the time/energy to post a complete review and recap of my trip to california. for those of you who didn't know (which is kind of suprising if you didn't, because i told everyone 15 million times), i was in southern california nov. 30th to dec. 4th. the trip was complete with panic attacks, monsters are waiting, tons of vegan food, theSTART, the troubadour, del taco, in-n-out burger, disneyland, aeomba records, plane delays, too much dramamine, starbucks, and in general the best 5 day vacation i've ever had.
so let us begin with wednesday november 30th....
this is the airport known as JFK. and gate 10 just happened to be our gate.
i do not like planes. not at all. i took a muscle relaxent before the flight. however it wore off around the time we hit the worst turbulance. damn the rocky mountains. about 30 minutes after we land my body realizes what it had just been through, and i have a panic attack. lack of breathe, cold shivers, nauseau, sweating, dizziness, you know the whole bit. luckily i had some time to nap in the back of the car before we headed to club moscow to see monsters are waiting...
i <3 MAW. they are so sweet. and it helps to be talented i suppose. christina got fascination dedicated to her. and we got a shout out. apparently we are special friends from new york. apres les show we delivered kate's scarves to them. annalee loved hers and immediately threw it on. (californians are strange, they think 55 degrees is freezing). jon was amazed by his and kept on wondering out loud how long it took kate to make. we spoke to him a little before we left and went back to casa de six. we all had a fair amount of trouble falling asleep becuase a fair number of pointless laughing fits.
so this is casa de six...
and her street has palm trees...
and mountains are her neighbors...
we are now onto thursday december 1st. also known as theSTART at the troub day. the day began at 8 something in the morning. or 9 something. i can't remember now. after we all showered and did makeup and etc. etc., we went a picked up sic at her house. then we drove to beverly hills to eat at native foods, which is a very excellent vegan place. i kept stealing christina's peppersteak because it was tasty.
we arrived at the troubadour far too early and sat there for many hours playing spongebob uno. during the longest game in the history of uno, we decided it would be a good idea to act out the characters on the cards. all i have to say about that is, "I'll be the snail!."
of course uno would not be complete without game faces...
after many hours of waiting outside the troubadour,
we began to go insane...
finally we get into the world famous troubadour.
the drink security at the troub is very lax. so six brings me drinks. i hadn't eaten in many hours so the alcohol went straight to my head. however before the drunken moron photo, we once again saw monsters are waiting. they are still lovely.
then came this band called run run run. of course by then six, tuna and myself were drunk. i believe tuna and i spent the entire time staring at a spinning ball of light in front of us. before we randomly met in the bathroom. which was weird.
now its the moment we've all been waiting for. well no. its just us drunken fools.
finally theSTART. the moment we've actually been waiting for. they opened with time. TIME. TTIIIIMMEEE. they also played melt, sleepwalker, her song and the walk. the complete setlist was as follows...
Time, Nemesis, Gorgeous, A Thousand Years, Like Days, Dead End Queen, The Underwater Song, Christian, Christian, the 1234, The Walk, Her Song, Melt, Peacocks, All or Nothing, Sleepwalker, Shakedown!
my very favorite band ever. however the liars didn't play hi flyer. LIARS! i was dancing and singing and snapping pictures the whole time. and probably freaking out. especially for the walk/her song/melt bit. holy wow.
after theSTART finished, we went to speak to MAW. eric and jon had left because eric got sick on stage during their set. christina spilled beer on annalee. which seemed to amuse her more than it annoyed her. we also found out about a very important thing at del taco known as del scorcho sauce. more on that later.
we also met human. aka aimee's mom. no wonder why aimee is so nice, it runs in her family! christina and human spoke about soy for a long time. and then we spoke about tofurkeys.
jacki had never met eno. so six and and jacki wandered off to find someone to take them to eno. we all catch up. and i get a superb picture with jamie.
then jacki met eno...
i got a picture with aimee...
then christina got a picture "thats unlike any other we've ever taken" with aimee...
(i think its because aimee is holding a water bottle?)
other important facts of thursday night. we met mid-western garbage fan people. we spoke of erick's mustache. jamie blamed ed for not learning hi flyer. but then took it back. annalee likes getting beer spilled on her. and everyone gives excellent hugs.
we got back to six's at like 2:30. and we had to be up the next morning at 7:30 for disneyland...
friday december 2nd. DISNEYLAND!
i love disneyland. really i do. i was aprehensive about going on space mountain, but it turns out i really liked it. then we ate. then we went on buzz lightyear. where i kicked christina's ass!
HAH. followed by star tours. i totally dorked out. because star wars. totally my nerd love. plus this woman attempted to sincerely tell us not to take flash photos...
my favorite ride by far was pirates of the carribean. although i got splashed several times. then thunder mountain death trap. that was pretty cool too.
um i tounged a toad. i didn't get high though. the toad lied...
christina however made out with the toad...
friends of six from gazz joined us for peter pan and some rides after. they're pretty cool people. pretty cool indeed.
the only thing slightly horrifying about disneyland was 'it's a small world'. i mean, i liked it for its cheesiness, and its 1950's animitronics. but it was so cheerful it was scary.
this is my reaction...
and this is a stone hippo inside of it's a small world...
we were absolutely exhausted after disneyland. we had spent 12 full hours there and had hardly slept in the past two nights. needless to say, when i hit the air matress, i passed right out.
this would be the air matress that christina and i slept on...
saturday december 3rd. we finally got to sleep in! we all slept until noon. a much needed 12 hours of sleep. after once again showering, and getting another round of starbucks (after all i had to prevent a caffiene headache), we drove to del taco. where i fell in love. taco bell is CRAP compared to a veggie works burrito. and del scorcho sauce is the greatest hot sauce in the world. it made my nose run, my forehead sweat and my stomach burn. that is the sign of an excellent hot sauce.
my approval of del taco and del scorcho...
christina and i have snuck maybe 50 packets of del scorcho sauce back to ny. however i used 3 tonight on various fried products at the school cafateria (its good with onion rings).
then we all went to see harry potter in imax. which i loved. and six and jacki loved. but poor christina had no idea what was going on and spent most of the movie eating twizzlers and playing with her phone.
(p.s cedric is really hot, too bad he dies)
after harry potter, and in order to cheer christina up, we went to popcornopolis. for any of you who don't know what popcornopolis is, it is only the worlds greatest store. they have every imaginable flavor of popcorn. i got caramel chocolate popcorn. and its excellent. i wish NY had a popcornopolis. i would weigh at least 300 lbs if it did.
on our way to the candy store in city walk, we saw a sign. and we had to take a picture of it. because it said start crow. and see, theSTART...and they have a crow logo...and yeah....we're losers...
the candy was for my 2nd cousins. they are super cool. juliette is now 6 and she enjoys drawing pictures for me and my friends. however one of my pictures, the girl was holding a toothbrush. i'm not sure if she was trying to get a message across or not. i find it quite amusing that my family does not think it's odd that i flew to CA to see theSTART. after all my cousin reeve is a rock guy himself and apparently fans of one of his two bands fly out all the time to see him play bars. they also have a dog who absolutely loves attention and kept collapsing on christina, jacki and six.
we left around 9:30 and drove to in-n-out burger. they have pretty excellent grilled cheese.
there is a house on six's block that goes insane with holiday lights.they also conviently had a fake penguin...
six was supposed to have a BYOB dance party in her room. however i'm an old fart and i was too tired to drink. and i believe jacki may have been too. so we sat around and played scattegoris and watched cure videos instead.
we also noticed that cassy (a paper sheep that grows wool, which i bought for six for her bday), had finally grown some wool.
sunday december 4th.
jacki left at maybe 6 in the morning. however christina and i were sound asleep and didn't have a chance to say bye to her. which is sad, because jacki is a pretty cool girl.
we awoke at 9. for some unknown reason. i still think its christina's fault, but she'll beg to differ. al called, and because of two inches of snow, our plane had been delayed. after packing, we decided it was time for another round of californian vegan. but not before we had christina put on a cheese hat.
hahaha. awesome. so anyway. californian vegan. christina and six's food came before mine. and that made me sad.
however my pepper steak soon came, and i ate as much as i could. which isn't a lot because i have a fairly small appetite. but i did my best.
almost as a last hurrah! of california, six took christina and myself to ameomba records. i saw tony, formally of the distillers. and i spent a whole lot of money. i gots myself some depeche mode, a calla advance, dresden dolls dvd, corpse bride soundtrack, and six bought me a garbage bootleg from 1998.
we still had two hours to spare before our late flight left, so we went back to casa de six and watched start videos.
our plane, originally scheduled to depart at 3:55 was delayed until 6:00pm. it became delayed even more when the crew realized that one of the passengers on the previous flight had broken an overhead bin. we had to wait for the maintenance guy to come tape it up. i took 3 dramamine for the flight, and by the time we took off i was pleasently stoned out of mind. christina and i ate more del taco (which we had gotten specifically for the flight) and i passed out for the remainder of our ride back to new york. apparently there was some turbulance, but i was in a sound stoned sleep on christina's shoulder.
the plane arrived in JFK at 2:00AM EST. i got back to stony brook at 3:45am. i had to be up the next morning at 11 for work. ...i was late.
while in california, six, christina and i took many videos on our respective digital cameras. they are rather amusing, though many of the jokes no one outside of who was there will understand. to see these videos you simply need to go to the following website...
