I.
Grandma called me up yesterday. She sounds older every time.
I wanted to know how she was. She wanted to know how I was.
"Grandma, I asked you first," I insisted.
"I'm fine, honey," she said, "except all my friends went and got married without me."
"No Grandma, I think you mean MY friends got married without me," I laughed.
"Haha, that's why I called, to check on you, to see if you're okay. When I was your age, all my friends did the same thing, and I started thinking nobody was EVER going to marry me!"
I said, "Grandma, I'm okay. This is how I want to be."
Instead of saying, "I guess that explains why you settled for such a dick."

I'm not very nice.

II.
Last night, I rented that Winged Migration documentary, just to see if it was any good. Dave sat and watched it with me tonight. There's this part where a little baby bird shoulders an unhatched egg out of the nest when its mom isn't looking.
"Smart bird," I said.
"At least it went over easy," Dave said.

III.
Mom left this morning. She's singing with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and won't be back until Saturday night. (Translation: I need a drink.) She called around 8pm to say that she and about a thousand other people were sitting under umbrellas, in the rain, watching James Taylor sing.
