Jude walked away from Max's hut, slowly at first, as though he had been expecting one of them to stop him, but the further he got, the faster he started walked, and soon, without even noticing it, Jude had almost started to run. He didn't feel like crying, he didn't feel like breaking down, he felt like yelling at the top of his fucking lungs, and he felt like he had and no one was listening.
The expression on Max's face hadn't been an unfamiliar one. They had been high together even on the night they fucking became friends, and they had been spiked together at the party, on Dr. Robert's bus. The way Max was when high, however, was completely different. It wasn't the good kind of high, but the numbing kind of high that Jude now wished he had. He needed to be numb.
He had no place to go. The hut was taboo, now, and he didn't want to be reminded of her anyway. He wanted to dive into the ocean and lay there for a thousand years, and wake up when all the shit had passed over, if it ever would. He wanted to tear the rec room apart, but after the mess he left last time, he stayed far away from any place where he could scatter things. He wound up in the Compound, down a random hallway he didn't even remember coming into, nor did he recognise exactly where he was, and he leaned down against the wall, banging his head hard against it.
Max and Lucy didn't want him anymore, and even worse, they didn't need him anymore. He had never felt quite as alone as he did in that moment.
